This season we're kicking off the NENSA EasternCup Series with a barnburner of an opening weekend Dec. 19-20 with a Sprint and a 5K at Craftsbury Outdoor Center. Our good friends in the Northeast Kingdom are already making snow for us - literally rolling out the white carpet.

We're also kicking off a new era with USSA - one in which our national program is seeing unprecedented success, and our national governing body has committed to directing every dollar raised by cross-country back into the cross-country program. USSA is setting out to re-engage with you - with us - the broader national nordic community. With our input they've launched new cross-country-specific membership levels to make joining USSA more relevant and more accessible. Beginning this year USSA membership will be required to participate in any USSA-sanctioned National Rankings List event. We are continuing the tradition of sanctioning the entire EasternCup Series with USSA and thus a USSA membership is now required to race an EasternCup. Take a look at the infographic below to see what membership level is right for you.

Registration for the EasternCup Opener at Craftsbury is now open and registration for the rest of the EasternCup Series is coming soon at NENSA.net. You will need a USSA member number to register (international athletes can use their FIS number).

From TeamUSA.org: "I am really looking forward to the start of the season," added Kähkönen. "I feel like our training year has been solid and I've seen good progression throughout. I am realistic though; I know everybody is training hard and the competition is tough, but at least I know we have done our job. And the good thing is that in biathlon, you get so many opportunities during the season - even during the week - that I know we will get some top results. What it will be exactly we will find out in a few weeks."  Read on via TeamUSA.org.
