Harmony Stained Glass

GLASS ARTISANS' SURVEY

Hi Everyone -

Our customer and friend David Lantrip is going to be helping us out this fall as part of his work for a master's degree.  He has put together a short survey to help us learn a little more about our customers and what's important to them.

If you could take just a few minutes to complete it, we'd appreciate it very much. It's painless and no personal information will be collected.  You might even find it interesting.

Thanks in advance.

Joyce

The German Contemporary School of Stained Glass

In the early twentieth century, a series of glass artists began to create modernistic installations that rejected pictorial representation in favor of abstract compositions.  Relying less on traditional scenic principles, they are more about color in the abstract, motion and line.  They employ the lead lines in these large works as a design element and elevate them from being simply structural in nature.
Ludwig Schaffrath
Come learn to build in lead came at Harmony and see what it is all about!  Whether you are intrigued by the modernist style of the German school or something more traditional, lead came construction will take you to the next level in your glass work.
The class information is shown below.

Proficiency With Glass Cutting and Fitting is Required

Two Sundays, October 18 and Building Lead Came 25
from 1:00 to 5:00 pm

We call lead came the "Technique of Professionals".  When someone comes into the store for a commission window, we'll usually be building it in lead came.  This is your opportunity to expand your glass skills and learn this centuries-old technique.

PLEASE VISIT THE STORE WELL IN ADVANCE OF CLASS TO SELECT YOUR PATTERN AND GLASS.  Your pattern needs to be approved for suitability.  Your glass needs to be cut and ground to fit before class begins.  We require that you purchase your pattern, glass and tools from Harmony.

Woven Illusion Bowl - No Experience Necessary - BYOB
$54 tuition includes $12 Glass Credit and Two Firings
Thursday, September 24
6:30 - 8:30 pm

If you could see it in person, you might be baffled as to how we "wove" it.  After all, you can't bend glass. . . . . or can you?

In this class you will create this beautiful plate by "weaving" strips of glass in the color combination of your choice.  It can be custom-designed to suit any room in your home or the home of a friend or relative. Adding noodles, stringer or pre-cut shapes gives your bowl interest and adds texture to your pattern.

Even though bending glass is a difficult process, the woven illusion isn't.  It's a fun and easy class with friends and BYOB!  You won't want to miss it!

Mosaic Lazy Susan Class
$46 plus supplies - Glass Cutting Skills Required
Saturday, September 26
Lazy Susan - Fruit Still Life
with Angela Chandler
from 1:00 to 5:00 pm

Please come to class with
your focal design glass
pre-cut and fitted.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Lazy Susans are back in style, but Harmony has known that all along!!

Lazy Susan's got their name from a 1917 Vanity Fair ad, but historians believe they may have been used by Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Edison.  They became a staple for serving in American Chinese restaurants in the 1950's.  They were such a practical item that they soon became a popular wedding gift.  That fad ended in the 1980's, but everything old is new again, and the Lazy Susan is back!  Join us to create a one-of-a-kind Lazy Susan for your counter or tabletop.  We've always loved Lazy Susans and this is one of our most popular mosaic classes - Harmony is always ahead of the curve!

In this one-day workshop, you'll learn how to transfer the pattern, prepare the substrate, nip and fit glass pieces, and glue your glass to create a stunning Lazy Susan for your dinner table. Due to the puzzle-like placement of glass pieces, you should not expect to finish this project in class. If you cut larger pieces in advance of class, you may finish everything except the grout.
