Market SLICE

Forbes has an interesting article out discussing the growing momentum in the market since the start of the year, fueled in their minds by the tax bill. Because this new bill benefits landlords more than homeowners, there has been increased interest in multi-family and mixed use housing. Even before the announcement of the tax bill, however, there were indications that the market was shifting in a positive direction. While inventory is still high, landlords and investors continue to seek out safe harbor for their investment dollars in established cities.

SLICE Trivia

Jefferson Market Library
With its Victorian Gothic facade and huge clock tower, the Jefferson Market Library may be the city's most visually striking library. Once a courthouse designed by Frederick Withers,, cases tried here included the trial of Harry K. Thaw for the murder of architect Stanford White in 1906, known as the "Trial of the Century." The building fell into disuse in 1945, at which point a preservationist group that included the poet E.E. Cummings campaigned to have it converted into a library. It's been a branch of the NYPL since 1967.
