FMCSA Accepting Comments On Proposed Diabetes Form

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) is anticipating a final rule bringing an end to the ban against the operation of commercial motor vehicles in interstate commerce by insulin-dependent diabetic drivers.

The agency previously published a proposed rule in 2015 on insulin-dependent diabetes and received public comments and recommendations from its Medical Review Board.  Based on the board's analysis and recommendations, FMCSA is considering replacing the previously proposed written notification from the treating clinician with a form titled "Insulin-Treated Diabetes Mellitus Assessment Form," to be completed by the clinician and provided to a certified medical examiner.   The form could be required for CMV drivers treated with insulin for diabetes who wish to drive in interstate commerce.
FMCSA is requesting public comments on the proposed revision and the form. Comments can be submitted on or before 9/25 at https://www.regulations.gov/docket?D=FMCSA-2005-23151.

Bailey Coach Trailways Jumps Into Action To Help Hurricane Harvey Relief Efforts
When the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) called upon Bai ley Coach to assist the victims of Hurricane Harvey, owner John Bailey made the immediate decision to release 3 buses to the Houston, Texas area. The family-owned business has been a certified vendor for FEMA for several years now.  "This is our third or fourth hurricane that we've done," John said.  John and 2 other drivers departed for San Antonio on Monday, August 28th  after being loaded with 60,000 pounds of bottled water, canned food, and clothes for victims of Hurricane Harvey.
Upon arrival in San Antonio, the Bailey buses will be dispatched to the Hurricane zone along with National Guard personnel.  "We don't go anywhere without National Guardsmen," Bailey explained.  "We could be picking up people and taking them to evacuation sites."
Kudos to Bailey Coach Trailways on their close involvement with FEMA and assistance for the victims of Hurricane Harvey!    Read the full article here .
