"In case of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, panels above your seat will open revealing oxygen masks . . . Secure your own mask first, before helping others."

If you've traveled by plane in the last half-century, these words are likely familiar. This month, we explore how to apply this lesson to our day-to-day experience.

We also explore intention and I introduce two mindfulness offerings for men in June and July.
Take Care of Yourself First
In my most recent blog, I explore the value of taking care of yourself. So many of my readers are in helping professions, are tireless volunteers and put others ahead of themselves.
Taking care of ourselves is critical to being able to care for others. Our own heart tells the story: through a complicated maze of arteries, the heart feeds itself first before distributing blood throughout the rest of the body.

If we ignore our own needs for too long, we become fatigue, weak, unable to help. Many of the cultural messages we receive discourage taking care of ourselves. And these messages can even cloud our perception of others as described in the Brene Brown video to the left.

Mindfulness offers tools and technologies to take care of ourselves, strengthening our resilience and unleashing our authentic selves. Through awareness and concentration, we can heal ourselves to heal the world.

You can explore this practice further in my recent podcast, "The Seed of Intention," described below.

R.A.I.N.The Seed of Intention

One way to take care of yourself is by setting an intention to guide your  experience. This process takes reflection and inquiry. It is an iterative process where each step informs the next.
