Navitas Organics Help Supercharge Client Meals
|
From hemp seeds that we use to make a non-dairy "milk" to enrich soups, to chia seeds that star in our popular Chia Seed Pudding, Navitas Organics' product donations enhance countless recipes that we deliver to our clients each week.
Like Ceres, Navitas Organics shares our commitment to healthy, nourishing and organic foods. Navitas, located in Marin County, provides high-quality superfood supplements, snacks and beauty products that are organic, nutrient dense, holistic, and energizing, compliment a healthy lifestyle and reduce the risk of disease. They are also committed to fair trade practices, traditional farming, practice green business practices and protect the environment by sourcing sustainable agriculture. We hope that our "superfoods" augment a "super-synergy" between our organizations that can improve population health in the communities where we live.
We're also pleased to welcome Navitas Organics to our growing list of Harvest of the Heart sponsors. Thank you, Navitas!

Ceres Extras: What They Are & Why We Offer Them
|
by Thais Harris, NC
Nutrition Education Manager, Ceres Community Project
Our last article outlined our food philosophy. In this article, we want to tell you about our Ceres Extras, which are "superfoods" we provide to clients and also sell to the general public at our Bodega Avenue location. These Extras were formulated to provide clients with extra support for their immune system, energy level, healthy gut flora, and nausea relief.
Supporting our body through what we eat is relatively simple when we are well but becomes a bigger and more important challenge when we are dealing with a critical illness. Illness changes how our energy is used, effects our appetite and ability to eat, and adds nutritional demands. When we are ill and healing from a serious illness, every bite counts....

Former Client "Pays It Forward" |
Former client Julie Carmen and her husband Billy discovered Ceres Community Project at the Sebastopol Farmers' Market. They were new to Sebastopol, and Julie had just been diagnosed with Breast cancer.
We provided meals for both of them during Julie's treatment. Billy recalls:
"When a patient experiences the torrent of emotions, fears and questions about a life-threatening condition, the shock and confusion are immense and overwhelming. Much the same are flooded over the spouse of a patient. And in most instances, there are few places one can go to a find help and hope for relief. Ceres played an enormous role in Julie's treatments, survival, overall spirit and abilities to heal and prosper. Without Ceres I would not have been capable of providing the proper nutrition and overall care Julie needed for her treatment and recovery."

Billy & Julie Carmen, early Ceres clients
|
Today, the Carmen's live in a small town in Michigan, where they continue to enjoy Ceres' Immune Broth every day, and have convinced the local Irish pub to add more healthy food to its menu. Julie's often the first one her friends call if they're experiencing a health challenge.
Julie shares: "I consistently talk about how the experience with Ceres changed my life forever. I found myself through cancer. Ceres taught me how I wanted to live my life. To value what nutrition does to the body. Experience the support and love from a community and believe in one's own strength. I will forever try to pay it forward to others."
