Greetings!

March, for many of us, still has the occasional snow flurry- and yet, at the same time leads are picking up, calls are coming in, and at least here in the Northeast, we’re trying to schedule construction crews around the storms. This is that awkward time of year, where one week it’s snowing, then next it’s raining, and the following it’s sunny, muddy, and flowers are coming up!

Now is the time to wrap up those last-minute business plans or marketing adjustments, make sure your training, certifications, and licensing is updated, and make sure your tools are in tip-top shape.

Keep in mind that NADRA and many of our manufacturers have several upcoming opportunities to update training. There may still be time to get a class in before summer is here and in turn, use that new class for some fresh marketing.

If you’re not sure what to use for a “Spring promotion” this year, consider using NADRA’s Deck Safety Month ® campaign. This is as an opportunity to share tips to Check Your Deck ® . NADRA offers it's members a plethora of marketing tools for this annual campaign. You can utilize these tools on social media, or with a newsletter to your past clients. This can be a great way to remind them of other services your company offers. Stay tuned to learn more about NADRA's deck safety marketing promo tools.

If you haven’t recently, check out the NADRA Facebook discussion- it’s a closed group, and a great place to network and keep up to date on your industry.

When choosing materials for deck construction, it is imperative to understand the difference between Above Ground pressure treated wood versus Ground Contact pressure treated wood. The American Wood Protection Association updated their standards in 2016 to state that some physically above the ground locations require Ground Contact treatment. READ MORE

What inspired you to join NADRA?     I filled out the application as a continuing effort to build awareness of our brand and of our mission, NADRA provides great exposure to potential clients, industry members, and manufactures, we appreciate the opportunity to share our dream!

When did you first get involved with this industry?    With ABG in NJ in 2011, prior to that I started in construction in the mid 90’s doing demo and general labor. I started working for a great contractor in Berkeley, CA in 2001 and that launched the inspiration to commit myself to the industry and spark the possibilities of being an artist in the process. By 2004 I had begun doing “side project,”  decks as well as outdoor features became a staple in my life.

How do you define success? I define success as the ability to drive my mental, physical, and spiritual self to experience life without regret. Live, love, learn. While providing the ability to give back fully and receive fluidly…

In short, I work to live a life of my own design, while being able to embrace things that unfold, and helping others along the way.

You must be the change you want to see in the world .” – Mahatma Gandhi

What advice would you like to share with fellow members that you have learned in your career?   Make a plan, work your plan, always adjust your plan as needed. Adaptation is tough, but real. Also I am learning that you can only carry others so far, finding the right people is key to healthy growth. READ MORE

NADRA Members in NJ need your help with supplies for Deck for a Soldier

The NJ Deck for a Soldier® build is starting this week with the project tear-down. A substantial amount of materials are still needed in order to make this happen for our Soldier. To see a list of materials and labor pledges, please click  HERE. I f you're product isn't being used, please consider a monetary pledge to help support our members efforts in NJ. These guys are donating their time, materials and many of them paying their crews to be on the jobsite to help with the build. If there is anything you can do, we greatly appreciate it.  If you would like to make a monetary pledge, you can do so  HERE.   The local crew can then use this money to purchase the items below as a final effort to fulfill material needs for the soldiers new deck.

The materials needed are as follows:

  • 2 – 14” or 16” x 4’ concrete form tubes
  • 3 – 2” x 10” – 16’ treated ledger boards

Leadership:
Because you can’t use a hammer on a project that requires a screwdriver!

Friends, we’ve all been there! Remember the piece of furniture or kid’s toy that had these dreaded words printed on the side of the box – Some Assembly Required? How could we forget!
As we opened the box, we crossed our fingers and our toes and hoped that the majority of the work was already done for us. However, that was never the case! There were always 45 packets of screws and nails, 3 packs of wooden dowels, a bottle of Elmer’s glue, one allen wrench and a set of instructions that were clearly written by someone who never put anything like this together in their lifetime.
At this point, every one of us clearly recognized that our success was based on the tools and the instructions given to us. The same applies when it comes to leadership. It’s all about the tools!isisisis

Here’s 10 things that I think contribute to great leadership. Ready? Let’s do this!
