AutoConnect Update: Data Validation Sessions
In February, AIA Canada hit the road and traveled across Canada to host five roundtable discussions to validate the data collected from the surveys of managers and on-site employees in order to better understand the workforce in Canada. The sessions took place in five different cities across Canada: Richmond, BC, Edmonton, AB, Mississauga, ON, Halifax, NS and Boucherville, QC.

HR representatives from both the mechanical and collision sectors, including hiring managers and shop owners were invited. During the discussions, we shared the emerging themes from the surveys, the existing gaps, and the challenges and barriers facing the industry. The opportunity to listen to the insights and experiences of people from the industry added to the findings of the survey. You can find the summaries from our round table discussions in a final report, which is expected in September 2018.

What's next?
Meanwhile, the preliminary survey findings will be compiled in a report format and published in April 2018. Titled, 'The Labour Market Watch,' this report will shed light on the status of the industry in both the mechanical and collision sectors. Stay tuned!
What's coming:

AIA Canada President,  Jean-François Champagne will meet with Transport Canada's Director General of Road Safety and Motor Vehicle Regulation on March 13.

Up for discussion

The need for aftermarket access to vehicle data for, amongst other things, diagnostic, repair and maintenance purposes; the need for the aftermarket to be at the table for discussions related to connected and autonomous vehicles (very important as these discussions are gaining momentum) and the aftermarket-focused work that Transport Canada is doing.
