ORCAS ISLAND CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL 
(Runs until Saturday, August 18 @ Orcas Center)
It's Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival's 21st Season! Artistic Director Aloysia Friedmann has put together a stellar lineup of internationally renowned musicians for this series of 10 evening concerts, plus extraordinary daytime events for all ages.  Highlights of the Festival include an evening of all six Brandenburg Concertos, a visit from mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade, a free Children's Concert featuring Peter and the Wolf, a rehearsal that is free for senior citizens to attend, a highly entertaining chat with Jon Kimura Parker, and a lively series of daytime lectures to enlighten audiences about evening concerts.

2018 ORCAS ISLAND ARTIST'S STUDIO TOUR
(Friday-Sunday, August 10-12, 11:00 am - 5:00 pm)
This is your chance to visit the working studios of over 30 premier Orcas Island Artists. See first hand how and where those special techniques are being mastered, meet the artists and purchase their most recent work. Watercolors, stone cutting, woodwork, forging, encaustics, ceramics, fiber arts, sculpture, photography, jewelry, printmaking, paintings and more. Don't forget the artists' preview show running August 2 thru September 5 at the Orcas Center. Plan to see the Studio Tour during the day and attend the Chamber Music Festival at night.

KINGFISHER EASTSOUND STUDIO - ARTIST'S STUDIO TOUR

Check out the Orcas-inspired Chinese brush paintings and snarky watercolors done by Jean  Agapoff at Kingfisher Eastsound Studio. Jean's paintings capture the spirit of the many island  animals using sumi ink and Chinese watercolor. Matted and framed paintings, cards, and  scrolls are available, as well as Kingfisher Wraps (an alternative to plastic wrap). Demos  possible all three days.

LIBRARY FAIR
(Saturday, August 11, 10:00 am - 3:00 pm @ Orcas Island Library)
Thousands of books, CDs, and DVDs stacked across tables in the parking lot of the Library, creating bustling aisles of eager bargain hunters in support of a good cause. Books are sorted by categories and include fiction, history, geography, mystery, cookbooks, sci-fi/westerns and books for children and teens. Proceeds benefit the Library throughout the year. Debit and credit cards accepted.

Leo Lambiel is putting his art collection up for sale to the public. For over 50 years he has collected original art from artists in the San Juan Islands. With literally thousands of pieces, this is not a sale to miss. Orcas Center teams up with Lambiel to bring this sale to the public. A percentage of sales will be donated to Orcas Center for the Arts.   NOTE: There will be absolutely NO parking onsite. Parking at Orcas Center required. Shuttles to and from the museum will be provided every 30 minutes.

SPOOKY TALES RETURN TO ORCAS HISTORICAL MUSEUMS
(Wednesdays, 8:00 pm @ Pioneer Museum and Fridays, 5:00 pm @ Crow Valley School Museum, through August 31) 
Professional storyteller, Antoinette Botsford, embellishes verifiable historical data with imagination to result in intriguing stories that keep the audience, sometimes as young as six years old--some as old as ninety-- hanging on every word! Ticket prices are $10 adults, $8 members, and $5 (under 18). Reservations are recommended. Both venues have limited seating.

ATLANTIC NET PENS DISCUSSION

You're invited to join Kurt Beardslee of Wild Fish Conservancy for a public discussion on PRV (Piscine Reovirus) in Puget Sound.  Orcas Food Co-op will be providing some great snacks and refreshments. We are proud to co-host this event and support the efforts of  Our Sound, Our Salmon  and the phasing out of Atlantic Salmon Net Pens in Washington State waters. WASHINGTON FEDERAL'S ARTIST OF THE MONTH: B. SADIE BAILEY
Long-time local M=multi-media folk artist B. Sadie Bailey is the August Artist of the Month at Washington Federal with a show theme entitled "Creatures and Beings." Works included span many years. Show runs through August. Washington Federal is open Monday-Friday, 9:00 am-5:00 pm.

SEPTEMBER ART EXHIBIT AT ORCAS CENTER
ART QUILTS BY SHEILA GAQUIN  and COMMUNITY ART SHOW
(Opening reception Friday, September 7, 5:30-7:00 pm @ Orcas Center)
Many of Sheila Gaquin's pieces have been juried into international quilt shows and she has a small piece in the permanent collection of the National Quilt Museum.  Sheila is a member of the Studio Art Quilt association who defines an art quilt as  "a creative visual work that is layered and stitched, or that references this form of stitched layered structure."
Community Art Show in the Madrona Room:  The Visual Arts Committee will be recieving art from community members Sept 5th, 10:00 to 2:00.

CREATIVE MINDS ART GALLERY
(Suite F-1, Our House Building, 123 North Beach Rd)
Artist, Janet Gadallah, Creative Minds Art Gallery, on Orcas Island, is a gem in the San Juan Islands. It is the first artist cooperative to open in the San Juan Islands since Orcas Island Artworks in Olga so many years ago. THE ORCAS ISLAND ARTWORKS 
The Orcas Island Artworks Gallery is a favorite Orcas destination housed in a historic building on the island's East side. Built in 1938 as a strawberry barreling plant, the lovingly restored landmark now showcases the best of our island's crafts and fine arts. Open daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
Part-time position at the Chamber of Commerce. Three days a week, from 10:00 am - 3:00  pm (4:00 pm during busy season.) Applicants should have an above-average knowledge of Orcas Island and good communication and computer skills. The position begins on Monday, September 10 (for training purposes), with Monday, September 17 for the actual position.
