National and Provincial News
The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games is Here! September 7 - 18, 2016!        
With the Opening Ceremonies for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games starting today at 4:30 pm MDT, the Canadian Paralympic Broadcast Consortium, led by the Canadian Paralympic Committee, announced that CBC/Radio-Canada will be Canada's home for daily coverage from the Opening Ceremony on Sept. 7 through to the Closing Ceremony on Sept. 18. CBC's digital platforms will provide daily live coverage with up to 11 simultaneous live streaming feeds for viewers to choose from across cbcsports.ca/paralympics and via the CBC Sports app for iOS and   Android devices as well as www.dailymotion.com/paralympics and www.youtube.com/user/paralympicSportTV. Television coverage will be available daily via CBC, Sportsnet ONE and AMI-tv.

Youth Get Geared Up for Accessibility Legislation 
 
We are pleased to inform you that an application package is now available at the following address www.Canada.ca/Accessible-Canada for eligible youth interested in participating in a one-day Forum taking place in November 2016. The Forum is part of The Government of Canada's consultation process on planned accessibility legislation and youth between the ages of 15-30 with a disability or with life experience, work experience or academic experience related to disability and accessibility are invited to apply. Please note that the deadline for applications is September 15, 2016 and that applications will not be considered past that date. 

Accessible Canada Consultations in Alberta 
The Government of Canada is leading consultations to inform planned accessibility legislation. In person sessions are coming soon to your community. Now is the time to have your say! Sessions taking place in Edmonton, Friday, October 7th, Matrix Hotel, 10640 100 Avenue NW and in Calgary on Thursday, October 13th at the Telus Convention Centre, 120 Ninth Avenue SE. Specific times will be announced soon.

SCI Alberta's Zachary Weeks has been selected as the local champion for Edmonton, Alberta to help ensure a successful event.

National Housing Strategy Consultations 
Expert roundtables are being held to discuss new approaches to housing challenges that could become part of Canada's National Housing Strategy. Tune in to the closing plenary session which features the highlights of the day and summarizes the challenges and opportunities that were discussed. Watch the live webcast of the plenary sessions on September 7, 8 and 9 at 3:45pm.

All Canadians deserve access to housing that meets their needs and that they can afford. The Government of Canada is looking for bold and innovative ideas to improve the future of housing in Canada. From homelessness to affordable homeownership to sustainable housing and everything in between, they want to hear from you on a variety of housing-related themes. Share your ideas.


Vehicle Modification Grant - Ralph Braun Foundation 
The Ralph Braun Foundation works nationally to provide vehicle modification grants of up to $5,000 to individuals with disabilities in need of financial assistance in the United States and Canada. The Ralph Braun Foundation operates on funding cycles.  The typical cycle will be open for one month and the application process must be completed online. 

Shine a Spotlight on Alberta's Volunteers
Through the Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards, the Government of Alberta recognizes remarkable Albertans whose volunteer achievements have contributed to the well-being of their community and fellow community members. The deadline for submissions is September 20, 2016.

Adaptive Cycling via Medicine Hat Adaptive Sport and Recreation (MHASR) 
Participants can bring their own or borrow a handcycle, adult trike, or tandem cycle. Taking place at Kin Coulee Park (by Band Shelter), Monday evenings, June 6 to Sept 26, Group 1: 6:00 to 7:00pm, Group 2: 7:15 to 8:15pm. Participants can bring own bike or borrow one of MHASR's.
