Emergency funds: available for artists affected by Northeast Minnesota flooding.
Please help us spread the word about emergency funds to help artists expedite recovery from the recent flooding in Duluth and Northeast Minnesota:

Springboard's Emergency Relief Fund will help pay up to $500 of an unpaid bill that has directly resulted from the flooding (i.e. professional cleaning; replacement of damaged items). A copy of the unpaid bill must be provided; payment is made directly to the business that the artist owes money. The fund does not cover rent/fees to landlords, utilities, home mortgage, and dues to credit cards, banks, and other financial institutions.  For more information and to apply, please visit http://www.springboardforthearts.org/health/emergency-relief-fund/

The Artist Fund Emergency Grant program serves artists residing in Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake or St. Louis counties in Minnesota, or in Douglas or Bayfield counties in Wisconsin. Emergency Grant requests are intended to address a one-time emergency need and are not meant to replace regular or "day job" income. Grant payments are typically written either directly to the artist or to a third party, as befits a given situation. For more information and to apply, please visit http://artistrelieffund.com/our-programs/how-our-program-works/.

More emergency funds can be found at http://www.springboardforthearts.org/health/emergency-relief-fund/ and http://www.nyfa.org/nyfa_source.asp?id=47&fid=1

Needed: photos of you in your studio / rehearsal space / workshop / atelier / office / art-cave / drawin' hole / etc.
Twice a year, we put out a call to you, our clients, to send photographic evidence of you engaged in the noble pursuit of creating your art to decorate the front of our biannual workshop catalog. That time has come again!

We're looking for photos of artists at work, whether that's painting, making music, acting, directing, whittling, sculpting, jamming, welding, writing, illustrating, or anything else. Process photos are great -- anything that shows work being done.

Portrait orientation preferred, but landscape oriented shots are welcome, too. They should be 300 dpi resolution. If you need help sizing your photos, our Resource Center is available. Call or email Andy for assistance.

Email to photos@springboardforthearts.org.

Be sure to include the following information: Name of Artist/Company; a one-sentence description; and a photo credit.

"Hmm. All I need is a word that rhymes with 'thenceforward,' and my
J.R.R. Tolkein outlaw country rock opera will be complete."

Summer "Work of Art" workshops at Hosmer Library, courtesy the Hennepin County Library.
This ten-session core curriculum is a regularly occurring part of our workshop schedule. It has been developed to be useful to artists practicing in all disciplines -- visual, performing and literary arts. The workshops are designed to work together or stand alone.

Unlike when the series has been offered in the past, to make as many sessions available to as many people as possible, you can only register for one workshop at a time. You can take as many as you'd like, but registration is on a first-come-first-serve basis for each individual workshop.

Workshops are open for registration at 10:00 a.m., thirty days before the date of the workshop. They won't be listed on the HCL's website before that time. Registration happens through the HCL's website, or you can give them a call. The website is here: www.hclib.org/events.

If you have questions about these workshops, please call us at 651-292-4381 or e-mail zaraawar@springboardforthearts.org.

No, stop it, the workshops are completely free.
Irrigate workshops coming up this summer.
Irrigate is an artist-led creative placemaking initiative spanning the six miles of the Central Corridor Light Rail line in Saint Paul during the years of its construction. Artists collaborate with businesses, organizations and community groups to change the landscape of the corridor with color, art, surprise, creativity and fun.

Artists of any level, experience or discipline -- who live, work or have a personal investment in the Central Corridor Light Rail Transit (CCLRT) neighborhoods -- are invited to a complimentary training on placemaking and cross-sector collaboration.  Use your creative talents to have an impact on your neighborhood, your local businesses, and the light rail corridor.  After completing the training, artists will be eligible to apply for collaborative placemaking project support through a simple and speedy application process.

Requirements:
  • You consider yourself an artist.
  • You live, work or have a personal investment in at least one of the CCLRT neighborhoods.
  • You want to learn about placemaking and working cross-sector.
Benefits:
  • Free training on placemaking and collaboration tools.
  • New connections to neighborhood resources and other artists.
  • Eligibility to apply for collaborative placemaking project support (up to $1000 per eligible artist/per project up to a maximum of $3,000)
All workshops are on Saturdays, 8:30am-5pm, located on or near the CCLRT.  Artists need only take one workshop.

Here are upcoming available dates for June 30, July 28, and August 25.
