Dr. Craig Goff
From the Pastor

During our recent worship and study series on the Book of Daniel, I wrote a song based on Daniel Chapter Three.

The chapter tells the story of how Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego learned that all people living in Babylon were being required to bow and worship a statue in the likeness of King Nebuchadnezzar.   They refused.
I tried to capture what the story might mean for us in my song "Up In Smoke:"...

Please remember the bus will leave at 7:30 A.M. on August 7 going to Lake Junaluska, North Carolina, for the Festival of Wisdom and Grace. We will return as soon the conference is over.     At last count we had 13 attending.

We keep reminding ourselves of the Adventures in Learning Experience which will be coming up in September, 2017. This will take place the last three Mondays in September.. .

Share the Spirit of 1776

More than 240 years ago our forefathers
invested in the future of our Nation.  The endowment team is asking YOU to invest in the future of St. Marks. To worship God and express our faith in peace and without duress is a freedom we enjoy.

During July, consider a gift to our Endowment fund using the numbers 1776. (For example, $17.76 or 177.60.)  No gift is too small.  Any Sunday in July, you may place your gift in the collection plate or in the Endowment Team Basket located in the Narthex
Will you lead St. Mark's Children to know Jesus?

Teachers and Shepherds are always needed in our children's classrooms!   All volunteers serve on a rotating basis with others on a team.  While many parents teach their children, we also want young parents to have the opportunity to bond in their own Sunday morning classes.  Excellent curriculum and all supplies are provided.  To learn more about serving as a rotating teacher or shepherd, contact Children's Ministries Team Leader Samantha Daniel or Rev. Martha Touchton for more information.
Georgia Touchton Appointed To National Young People's Ministries Board

Bishop Bill McAlilly has recently appointed St. Mark's member Georgia Touchton to the National Young People's Ministries Board, a Division of Discipleship Ministries in Nashville.   The NYPM exists to empower young people as world-changing disciples of Jesus Christ, to nurture faith development, and to equip young leaders.
Georgia will be a sophomore at Central Magnet School this fall.  She is active in St. Mark's FusionYouth and was recently elected Secretary of the Tennessee Conference Council on Youth Ministries.   As a member of NYPM, Georgia will travel to St. Simon's Island this summer for a meeting of the national board, and then to Johannesburg, South Africa next summer to participate in a gathering of the 2018 Global Young People's Convocation (GYPC), which brings together the voices and ideas of United Methodist young people from around the world every four years.
