During a recent worship service, I mentioned the assassination attempt made on the life of Pope John Paul II on May 31st, 1981. He was crossing St. Peter's Square in Vatican City that day when a young man tried to kill him. He was shot four times.

Amazingly, he survived and forgave the young man who shot him. He even visited him in prison and worked to get him released...
 
SAGES News

Thanks to everyone who came out for the last SAGES Quarterly Luncheon.  Our speaker was Steve Cates, who talked  with us about the Cripple Creek Cloggers. It was a wonderful day.  The food and fellowship were great as well.
 
Remember that on Wednesday evening,  April 19 at 6:15 P.M. as part of WNT,  one of the workshops will be "Early Christian History" led by our own Reverend Jeff Reynolds...

Wednesday Night Together

Wednesday Night Together continues this week. Dinner cost is $6.00/adult, $2.00/children 10 and under and MTSU students, $20.00/families (up to 6 people).   CLICK HERE to see our weekly menus.  Be sure to make your meal reservation by noon on Monday.

Youth News
Thanks to all of the youth who participated in the sunrise service. You all did a great job-what a wonderful way to start our day. Special thanks to Beth Shirley and the seniors for their leadership in the in the service.
 
Our senior recognition will be May 14. We hope everyone will Sunday school and worship that morning to recognize this class.
The last weekend of April is our time to serve! On the 29th we will be doing the furniture truck and on the 30th we will be serving as ushers for both services. Please sign up to help on the bulletin board.
 
Mission trippers-be sure you get your information to sell pizza and also sell your stock!
 
Our SMALL group "Help! I need a job" will meet on April 30th and May 6th at 3:00. Come get some help finding that summer job!
Teacher Appreciation Day

St. Mark's Sunday School Teacher Appreciation Day
Sunday, April 23rd 

Donations are being accepted toward gifts for Teachers and Shepherds. Children can write or draw notes of thanks. Adult classes and students are encouraged to find meaningful ways to express appreciation to their class leaders and teachers.  Contact  Rev. Martha Touchton for more info.

Church Family Picnic

Join us for fun, food and fellowship at this spring's Church Family Picnic, Sunday, April 30th. 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. For more information, see the FLYER HERE.
Parents Night Out

Do you need a night out?  We can help with that!   The youth will be sponsoring Parents Night Out on   April 21st and May 12th.  These are open to children Ages 3 months-6th grade and the time is 6:30-10:00pm 
 
Cost:  $20.00 for one child; $35.00 for two children, and $45.00 for three or more children.   The fees will be used to provide a snack and all supplies needed for the evening.  Proceeds will benefit the Youth Mission Trips.  
 
Reservations are required and can be made in the church office by Wednesday.   Pick up and dismissal will be through the youth center. 
 
Parents Night Out will be staffed by youth and adults.

Respectful Conversation on Human Sexuality - Tuesday April 18th and 25th, 7:00 until 9:00 in the Narthex. Dr. Bill Mullins is leading this church-wide conversation on one of the important issues facing the church today.   Fred Daniel and Sean Gilliland are co-facilitators of this two-part series designed to help us understand how the United Methodist church is confronting differing opinions on the issue, and to help us as committed Christians better relate to one another in light of these differences.  To help us plan for the meeting, please RSVP to stmarks@stmarkstn.org to indicate you will be attending or signup in the church office.

Saying Farewell (and Hello)This Sunday, April 23, will be Dr. Caleb Harris' final Sunday at St. Mark's. We are grateful to him for serving as our talented pianist/organist and will miss him greatly! Stop by the Narthex after the early service to wish Caleb well in his future endeavors (and enjoy a slice of cake!). Dr. Adam Clark will soon be joining the staff as our new pianist/organist. His first Sunday in worship at St. Mark's will be April 30.

Join the Sound & Media Team The Audio/Visual team is seek ing volunteers to assist in delivering the Sunday Morning Worship programs.  No prior experience required, just a willing heart.  This team manages the sound and presentation material you hear and see during worship. We will conduct a one hour training seminar  Sunday April 30th at 12pm  in the sanctuary (right after second service). Please contact Jason Holley  ( jasonholley@comcast.net  or  615-585-5480 if you can attend the training.

Safe Sanctuary TrainingThere will be a safe sanctuary training at 6:30 p.m.on May 15th. Everyone involved in Sunday school or vacation Bible school who has not participated in the training should attend that evening. Reservations for the class may be made by contacting Mary or Beth.

UMCOR Sunday at St. Mark's - Thank you for your tremendous response to the UMCOR!  St. Mark's offering totaled more than $2,000!

Recreation News - The  St. Mark's Golf Tournament will be held May 6, with a 1:00 p.m. tee time. Cost is $55 to play.  Sign up on the bulletin board outside the Banquet Room.

Pizza SalesThe youth are selling Little Caesar pizzas!  If you are interested in purchasing pizza kits, see one of our youth who is participating in a mission trip this summer. 

Stewardship Summary As of April 9, we have received gifts of $356,519.00. Based on the past giving trends, our anticipated goal is to reach 30% of the annual operational need or $401,723 by the end of April.  Thank you for supporting the ministries of St. Mark's!

Alzheimer's/Dementia  Care Giver Support Group will meet on April 27th at 1:30 in RM 1203. We will have as our guest speaker, Debra King LMSW,Elder Care Coordinator of Takacs and McGinnis Elder Care Law. She will be giving us information on Elder Care Law.  Anyone who is interested is welcome to attend.
