Resolutions anyone?

Dear Readers,

We've come to the start of another new year, and people the world over will likely be making and breaking resolutions of all kinds.

Whether you're one of those people who swears that this is the year you'll get into the gym and finally  in fit that dress which has been living at the back of your closet for the past five years, or you're hoping to finally get smarter about your finances , the new year presents us all with an opportunity for change.

The question is...how many of us actually use that opportunity? The idea of new year's resolutions have become a bit of cliche...something you say at the end of the year without any real intention of sticking to it. In fact, most people  don't make it past week one.

In 2018, however, we want to encourage our readers to finally make something of all that wishful thinking! It may seem daunting but the trick is starting where you are and using what you have available to you. This year, push yourself outside of your usual comfort zone, and even when things get rough KEEP GOING!

AND...while we're all working hard to stick to our personal resolutions I think there are some collective resolutions that all of us should also commit to.

Let us all commit to being kinder to each other. Whether you're stuck behind a "slow driver", in a long bank line, at a restaurant where the food is taking forever, keep in mind that we're all working through our own personal struggles and that sometimes we just need a kind word  or gesture.

Let's commit to collective excellence. No matter how small or insignificant the task, do it to the best of your ability. Inspire and encourage those in your circle of influence to do the same. Let's go the extra mile and put in the extra effort to make our work  environments, home environments and our country even better than they are now.

These sound easy but history has taught us that sometimes it's the little things that can be most difficult. In 2018 let's all help each other to make this the best year ever! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Setting the Tone on Marijuana
The past 24 hours has seen social media explode with public opinion regarding the possible decriminalization of marijuana in the Bahamas. The chatter comes ahead of a planned CARICOM sponsored meeting designed to obtain information on the social, economic, health and legal issues related to marijuana use and gauge regional opinions on this global issue. While it should be noted that the Democratic National Alliance has been clear on its position, we remain concerned however, that the country's current leadership has not made its position clear - a reality which paves the way for the narrative on this issue to be written for us.  Read More
First Stability: FNM Government Poised to Bring Prosperity This Year
When the FNM Government was elected in May 2017, our country was in dire straits economically. We had suffered downgrade after downgrade, sky rocketing unemployment and clearly the corrupt PLP government was more focused on helping themselves than the people they serve.
The new FNM Government rolled up its sleeves and went to work with the goal of bringing financial stability back to the country. We are now  seeing the positive results of those actions.   Read on

'Boxes of Smiles' Initiative Lights up the Season for Children's Emergency Hostel

Kayley Simon and her classmates packed a whole lot of love into a single shoe box and what started out as an idea to give gifts to others less fortunate instead of exchanging with classmates turned into a class project that taught the true meaning of the season.  Kayley, 11, is a sixth grade student at Windsor Preparatory School in western New Providence. Shortly before the holidays, Kayley wrote  to her teacher, Mrs. Courtnee Romer, sharing her excitement about the holidays, telling her she could "hardly wait to see the bright lights and the awesome Christmas trees all beautifully decorated."  Read More
