TOT SHABBAT - 6:45 p.m. KABBALAT SHABBAT - 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 19
Join us to celebrate Shabbat for tots and for grown-ups.
Come to one or both services! We look forward to seeing you.
Tot Shabbat is geared towards those five years old and under, but all are welcome.
Tot Shabbat families, we encourage you to stay for regular services: Tots and their grown-ups will be invited to light candles together at the beginning of Kabbalat Shabbat. (Candle lighting occurs at approximately 7:40 p.m.) Then, feel free to stay as long as you want and leave whenever you need to; we understand that bedtime comes early for some tots (and their parents!).

TLC for ARROWHEAD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
|
WOW! Your supplies and financial donations
have already started coming in! Thank you!!
"TLC" doesn't just stand for "tender loving care" - it's also the vision for Kehillah's "adopted" school, Arrowhead Elementary School.
From Arrowhead's website:
Our vision is to be a TLC community.
At Arrowhead, we TEACH, empower, and inspire.
We LEARN, collaborate, and explore.
We CREATE, engage, and think.
Our Social Action team wants to help Arrowhead kids start the school year off right. Let's show them some TLC by bringing "new school year" donations to Tot Shabbat & Kabbalat Shabbat services on Friday, August 19.
If you prefer to make a financial donation, Paulette and the Social Action team will do the shopping for you! If this is the case, please consider making your donation sooner rather than later, so the team can take advantage of back-to-school sales and your donations will go further. Make your check payable to Congregation Kehillah & indicate it's for Social Action/Back to School; or donate online here.
Just some of the items needed:
Pencils ~ Pens ~ Spiral Notebooks ~ Looseleaf Binders ~ Glue Sticks
Tissues ~ Erasers ~ Pencil Cases ~ Markers ~ Pocket Folders
Children's Scissors ~ White Glue ~ Highlighters ~ Pencil Sharpeners ~ etc.
ALSO New Socks ~ New Underwear ~ Bus Passes
AND DON'T FORGET ~
Books for teachers and children are always welcome, as are food & snack donations for the school and for Mom's Pantry.
We are meeting only one time for services in August,
so please start shopping now and bring your supplies
on August 19! Or contact paulettefraenkel@gmail.com
to make other arrangements.

Welcome to an occasional feature on how Kehillah congregants
express the value of
tikkun olam (repairing the world).
Cookie Morganstern and Hippotherapy
Kehillah member
Cookie Morganstern became interested in hippotherapy

therapeutic or rehabilitative treatment)
after her quadruplet grandchildren were born; two have special needs. Cookie spent seven years volunteering at Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center (in Chagrin Falls, Ohio) and saw how activities that are customized to individuals' needs can have a positive impact on muscle tone, coordination, balance, posture, sensory integration, strength, and speech and language skills.
Through hippotherapy, Cookie says, children (and adults) gain confidence and a sense of independence. "Whether it is physical, cognitive, sensory or emotional disability, all can benefit from working with horses."
After volunteering for two years at a local stable, Cookie started her own program two years ago at Morganstern Ranch LLC (owned by her and her husband, Stan), which she says was established "to provide a safe, peaceful place for the therapy." Whenever possible, parents are included in the therapy "to make the process a team effort."
Cookie is currently pursuing additional education in hippotherapy, and invites anyone interested in observing a therapy lesson or becoming a volunteer to contact her, at 623-202-6318. No previous experience with horses is required.
How do you practice
tikkun olam? Please let Renee know; we'd love to share your good works with the rest of our community!
