A message from Rabbi Sharfman:

We are both brokenhearted and incensed over the mass hate crime committed in Orlando over the weekend. How can we best respond? If you are able to donate blood, please do so. Make the effort to know your neighbors and to allow them to know you. Work to bring people together to offer immediate comfort, but don't stop there. Spread the idea that there is indeed a 'common good' and work in pursuit of it. Healing this precious society involves understanding not only our entitlements, but also our responsibility as citizens. It starts with an open heart and mind, and getting to know one another.

Let's bond together against terrorism, against hatred. Neither silence nor living in fear, nor bowing our heads saying 'how terrible' will lead to meaningful change. Choose life and live with intention!

With prayers for the wounded, for those who lost their lives, and for all of us, because we have all been impacted by this tragedy; for our country and for those specifically in Orlando, Israel and all over the world who are mourning the loss of loved ones,

L'shalom,

RBS

DO WE HAVE A DATE?
We sure do - multiple dates, in fact! The 2016-2017 Kehillah Calendar is filling up with dates for Kabbalat Shabbat, YEP!, Adult Ed, Girls' Night Out, Brotherhood, holidays, and so much more!

We've included all the dates for Kabbalat Shabbat, YEP!, and Torah Talk below - but please continue to check Connections for last-minute changes and adjustments. And of course, we'll still provide you with a printable monthly calendar; the link for that will continue to be on the top left of each Connections. And we'll continue to include "Dates Mentioned In This Issue," for upcoming events, in the gray column on the right. We are looking forward to a busy, jam-packed year!

OUR KEHILLAH FAMILY
Mazal Tov to . . .

Jennifer Feltenstein and all her family, including her grandmother, Arlene Maletta.

Because Jennifer's news is so extraordinary, we invited Arlene to share more details. Here's an explanation, in Arlene's words:

"My granddaughter walked today! Jen will be 21 in September, and was born with Cerebral Palsy. Physical therapy and schooling began almost from birth. A break was taken for a while due to scoliosis surgery and then recovery. Rather recently she began a program involving Botox injections at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Almost immediately she began to straighten out her right arm, and the visits bring new progress. This morning's therapist [at Burke Rehabilitation Center in White Plains, NY] brought about the walking.

"Jen works hard at everything she does. She graduated from New Rochelle High School, and now works and is thriving at United Cerebral Palsy of Westchester. She's also sings, and does musical broadcasting from there, and is involved in programs at Pace University and Iona College.

"Gd has been working overtime for her because she is a patient and wonderful person!"

Thank you, Arlene, for letting us share this wonderful news!

Let us know of your simchas so we can share in your joy!
Do you have children or grandchildren graduating this year?
