Week of May 22, 2017 / Iyar-Sivan 5777
RSVP for Shavuot by this Wednesday
Shavuot is a major Jewish festival held on the 6th (and usually the 7th) of Sivan,
50 days after the second day of Passover. It was originally a harvest festival, but now also commemorates the giving of the Torah. It is also a Yizkor day.

If you would you be interested in attending Yizkor and a brief Shavuot program beginning at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, May 31, please RSVP to Renee, [email protected], by Wednesday, May 24. If you have already RSVP'd, please reconfirm by email to Renee so we are assured of a minyan. Thank you!
Some thoughts from Rich Goldman, Congregation Kehillah President

Friends:

A quick and joyous note here upon our return from a memorable and life-changing trip to Israel.

Rabbi Bonnie Sharfman once again led a group for a 14-day pilgrimage to our Jewish homeland. Highlights were so numerous it's difficult to isolate any one thing. From Tel Aviv to the Golan Heights, to Tzfat, to the Dead Sea, and finally to Jerusalem, it was magnificent from start to finish.

Personally, I returned with a renewed and deepened sense of mission to grow and nurture our Kehillah after being inspired by and exposed to the richness of so many examples of Jewish communal life.

In addition, this Sunday morning I had the thrilling experience of seeing our YEP! religious school in session at our new home for the very first time. I cannot say enough about the sight of parents and children so deeply engaged in learning and sharing Jewishly in (let me say it again) our own home. The sense of possibilities in observing this is truly overwhelming and inspiring. It is a dream of Rabbi Sharfman's that I believe is in the process of coming true. I am so proud and grateful for the hard work and commitment of the teachers, volunteers and everyone involved who make this miracle happen.

As President of Congregation Kehillah, I have spent a great deal of time thinking about what is truly important and where to focus our efforts and energies as relates to building and adding to what we have begun, which is to build a strong, caring and vibrant community of people who want to live and grow together Jewishly. I'm blessed with a strong and extremely capable leadership team to work on all of this. The talent, wisdom, passion, and commitment we have within our Kehillah are both impressive and deeply gratifying.

As we move towards the summer months, life at Congregation Kehillah may slow down for some, but not for your leadership team. Our focus and efforts will remain exactly where they need to be, on renovating our new home, on growing and continuing to attract new members, and on strengthening the things that we do to successfully build an even greater sense of community.

I wish you all a pleasant summer and look forward to hearing from you.

Rich Goldman
President

THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS
A note from Renee:
We are all very excited to be moving into our new home. There are many items we will need to make our house into a home and we appreciate all who have already stepped forward and offered to donate various items. For now, we ask that you please hold off purchasing items for us until we figure out what our needs are. If you wish to help now, a monetary donation is always welcomed. Currently we are developing a wish list and will have a gift registry requesting specific, new items. Since we are still under renovation, we have nowhere to safely store items. Thank you for your support and understanding.
