The Jubilee Initiative, Part Three
By Canon Rob Rhodes
Last week I wrote about the Economics of Compassion Initiative (ECI), and a little bit about the Neighborhood Economics Conference hosted by Xavier University and co- sponsored by Christ Church Cathedral.

One of the great parts about being involved in ECI is getting to know people I otherwise wouldn't get to know, like Peter Block and Walter Brueggemann . I'd been reading Dr. Brueggemann's books since the mid-nineties, and had met him a few times before I moved to Cincinnati, but I still can't get over having him in my phone contacts!

Besides theological superstars like Dr. Brueggemann, I've also gotten to know people who are doing great work around Cincinnati and the world around economic justice and imagining alternative economics.

Upcoming Adult Forum

February 19

Cathedral member Dr. Ruth  Bamberger, Emeritus Professor Political Science (Drury University) will present a program on the classic work,  The Sand County Almanac . Written in 1946, Aldo Leopold urged us to formulate a Ten Commandments to define our proper relationship to the earth, just as we have a Ten Commandments given us by Moses outlining our relationship to God and neighbor. This forum will explore briefly how and why our culture became an exploiter of earth's resources, and how Christian teaching can provide a roadmap to address current environmental issues. In the Forum Room following the 10:00 am service. Questions? Email Paula Rose
Building Information

The cathedral will be closed on Monday, February 20, in observance of Presidents' Day.
Catacoustic Presents
The Baroque Cello

February 19

He will treat the audience to a virtuoso sampling of music for this soulful instrument, accompanied by harpsichord, theory, and bass viola de gamba. Ticket information: catacoustic. com/tickets. For more information, visit our website or call 513-621-1817.
Cafe Conversations

February 23

On the heels of a very well attended Lunch Issues: Community Forum yesterday (February 16), we will continue the conversation around the topic,  Local Responses To What Is Going On In Washington, D.C.

Beginning on February 23, on alternative Thursdays when there is not a Community Forum taking place, we will create a space to continue the conversation from the previous forum, or perhaps just see where the 12:00 pm hour takes us.

In a current culture that jumps so quickly from one news cycle to the next, we offer a space during the lunchtime hour where actual discussions are encouraged. Please join us for our kick off next Thursday. Lunch will be provided.

Burning of Blessed Palms

February 26

In preparation for Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent, please bring your old palm branches to the 10:00 am service. At the conclusion of Eucharist, you will be invited to join us in the Columbarium for a very brief liturgy as we burn the palms. The ashes from the burnt palms will be used to create ashes for imposition on Ash Wednesday.

Shrove Sunday Jazz Mass

February 26

Join us for a festive Jazz Eucharist at the 10:00 am service on the Last Sunday after the Epiphany - a final party before we begin our Lenten discipline! The Cathedral Choir will be joined by local jazz musicians to perform Bob Chilcott's A Little Jazz Mass and Duke Ellington's Come Sunday . Join us for a pancake brunch in the undercroft following the service.

Ash Wednesday Services

March 1

Join us on Ash Wednesday as we begin the season of Lent, journeying together toward the Cross - and ultimately the Resurrection. Through the imposition of ashes, we are reminded that are made from dust and will return to dust. We also experience again the mercy and forgiveness of a loving God. Services are as fol lows: 7:30 am in St. Paul's Chapel; 12:10 pm in the cathedral nave; 6 pm in the cathedral nave (please note this service has incense). More Ash Wednesday information to follow in the coming weeks!
Lenten Quiet Day

March 4

Save the date for our upcoming Lenten Quiet Day. Lenten Quiet Day is a time to set aside a few hours to focus your mind and heart on walking the Lenten journey.

Please save the date for Saturday, March 4, from 9a - 3p. Questions? Email Canon Pearce.
Choral Evensong

March 5

Begin your week with a time of  reflection as hear ancient texts of prayer and praise sung by the soaring voices of the Christ Church Cathedral Choir and the Bethany School Chapel Choir at 6 pm on Sunday, March 5. Music will include: Magnificat & Nunc dimittis (chant & William Byrd) and "O for a Closer Walk with God" (Grayston Ives). An organ recital of Lenten music played by Nancianne Parrella will precede the service at 5:40 pm. Reception following.
The Lenten Series

March 12

Priv-i-lege has been defined as a "special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group of people." (Merriam-Webster Dictionary)

Privilege takes different forms. Living into our Baptismal Covenant necessitates that we closely examine various forms of privilege that create systemic structures that impede fullness of life.
During the penitential season of Lent, we will closely examine the notion of "privilege" so that we can acknowledge the structural sin that allows it to perpetuate and repent of that sin.

This year's Lenten series will be a call to return to Lord by using the theological lens of our Baptismal Covenant in order to raise consciousness about racial privilege. Learn more here or print a flyer for a friend! Join us for the kick off at the Adult Forum on March 12.
Your Photo Directory

Wondering where the new photo directory is? We understand! We were hoping to have them in the hands of our members last week at the annual meeting, but due to some unforeseen challenges with our vendor partner, we were unable to do so.

Right now, the initial proof of the directory has been sent back to the vendor, and we anticipate one more round of revisions to follow. Once we have a delivery date to receive the final books from the vendor, we will let you all know.

We sincerely appreciate your patience!

Arvo Part's Passio
March 19

Experience this meditative take on the Passion as told by St. John. Arvo Pärt's Passio is an incredibly serene and moving work, one that has informed an entire generation of composers. Trinity Institute in March

March 23 & 24

We are proud to partner with Trinity Wall Street again to bring the annual Trinity Institute conference offering to our cathedral members and friends. This years offering will be focused on water justice. You are invited to the water justice movement! We will look to develop a deeper appreciation for water as a sacred gift, gain a thorough understanding of the relationship between water justice and climate change, and learn what we can do about water issues of access,
pollution, drought, and rising tides. Please join us for this annual conference to be held at the cathedral on
March 23 and 24 . Questions about Trinity Institute? Reach out to Sub-Dean Manoj Zacharia. Interested in registering for this event? Email Kathy Noe.
