Welcome to the fall launch of the CAN/CAS Children's Ministry Network (Formerly Children Ministry Conversation Group)
As we are launching our fall ministries, it is also a great time to reconnect with our fellow children's ministry leaders, and welcome new leaders into the group.
The CAN/CAS Children's Ministry Network(CMN)functions as a resource partner for our children's ministry directors, leadership team, and pastors as an opportunity to share resources and have amazing conversations around processing ministry issues and celebrating successes. This group meets on the third Wednesday of each month, rotating locations so that we can see one another's ministry space and learn from each other. Our meeting times are from  12:00-1:00 (bring your lunch) and consists of a topic of conversation to be discussed, which is often decided upon at each gathering.
Our next gathering is scheduled for Wednesday September 16, 12:00-1:00pm at Trinity UMC, 1581 Cambridge Blvd, Columbus, Ohio 43212.
Topic: The Stewardship of Children with special guest Dave Boling, Associate Director, Council On Development for the West Ohio Conference.
We will discuss what best practice our churches are utilizing to create generous stewards in our children and how the children can lead the way for the church. For more information, or to join the CAN/CAS CMN Email list, please contact Rev. Karen Brantley at [email protected]  or 614-488-0695

"When Kids Come Out"
A Four-Session Class for  Parents of LGBT Children
When a child comes out to his/her/their family, it often raises many questions for both the child and for the family.  For example:
  • What does it mean for the family when a child comes out to his/her/their parents?
  • What does it mean for the parents' relationship to their church?
  • What does it mean for the parents' own faith?
  • How do parents navigate their own "coming out" after their children have come out to them?
These questions are among those that will be addressed in the four-session class that will be held on Wednesday evenings from October 21 through November 11 at the Livingston United Methodist Church. The meetings will begin at 7:00 pm and conclude by 8:30 pm. The church is located at 200 E Livingston Avenue, Columbus. Parking is available at the church. Look for signs directing you to "Kids Coming Out" class at the church.

The Rev. Jim Waugh, retired pastor in the West Ohio Conference, will lead the group. Jim and his wife, Carol, have an adult daughter, Lisa, who came out to them several years ago.

If you have questions or need more information, please feel free to email Jim: [email protected].   Read more....
