White Mountains

Franconia Mountain Range from atop Cannon Mountain

On a warm summer's day, when the sky is blue and dotted with fluffy clouds, the view across the White Mountains is glorious and best seen gazing across, rather than from below.

If you're not inclined to climb to the top of the mountain, we've got ways you can hitch a ride and reach a summit, like the Mt. Washington Auto Road, the Mount Washington Cog Railway, the Attitash chairlift, the Cannon Mountain Tramway or the gondolas at Wildcat Mountain and Loon Mountain.

On one of these fine days recently, we opted for the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway and set out on the Rim Trail, an easy walk around the summit, where there are plenty of places you can find a nice rock, get comfortable and absorb the landscape spread out before you.

As many times as you may do this - and we have done it hundreds of times - the view is ever-changing, depending on the position of the sun and the shadows that run across the mountainsides, thanks to the clouds catching a breeze aloft.

It's August now, a good time to come up and claim a rock and catch a view you won't soon forget. We know where you can find it, so on your journey north, stop by our visitors center, off exit 32 of Interstate 93 in North Woodstock, or give us a call at 800-346-3687.

Our website is also packed with information to help you plan your visit, at www.VisitWhiteMountains.com.
