Autumn has packed her bags and headed south, leaving the door open for Jack Frost to come calling above 5,000 feet or so.
On Sunday, we climbed aboard the Mount Washington Cog Railway (www.TheCog.com) and headed for the summit, where we truly were among the
clouds. As often as we have been a passenger, this was truly unique - and we
realized that we are seeing our beloved White Mountains from a vantage point
we won't see for another few weeks when the ski areas open!
Several of our summer Attractions are still welcoming guests. On this particularly spooky weekend, you won't want to miss the special Halloween
festivities over in Jefferson at Six Gun City (www.SixGunCity.com) or
Santa's Village (www.SantasVillage.com).
The Cog will climb to the clouds through Dec. 4, weather permitting; otherwise, the train goes up about halfway - above the treeline so you can
get the view. You can also take a train ride aboard the Conway Scenic
Railroad (www.ConwayScenic.com) and the Hobo Railroad in Lincoln
(www.HoboRR.com).
The changing season in the White Mountains is probably one of our best kept
secrets. If you're looking for a getaway that includes fun, adventure and
maybe a roaring fire in a fireplace, let us help.
We're on duty at the Visitors' Center, off exit 32 of Interstate 93 in North Woodstock; we're a phone call away at 800-346-3687 and our website is loaded
with information at www.VisitWhiteMountains.com.
