MSU Tollgate Farm's Maple Tapping and Pancake Feast

The 2017 Maple Tapping and Pancake Feast  featured Michigan's sweet treat - real maple syrup! Over 400 people gathered at the farm to learn more about the history, science, and art of maple sugaring.
Tollgate's maple sugaring
volunteers have been at the heart of the farm's maple tapping operation for over 20 years.  Their tireless efforts to gather and evaporate sap allow an enriching experience for all!
Many additional volunteers oversaw important roles, including hospitality, cooking/kitchen crew, educational  activities, fire-tenders, and more.
Reenactors Jeff Pavlik, Crane, George, Zach, and Hank helped bring early American maple sugaring to life in a French Colonial and Native American sugaring camp.
Without the dedication of these volunteers, Maple Tapping and Pancake Feast could have not taken place!

Is your child gifted? Michigan State University's Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) offers CHAMP and ISHALL accelerated programs in math and English, designed for gifted students in grades 7-10. These programs are offered at the Tollgate Center in Novi, and students from all areas surrounding Novi are welcome! The programs allow students to complete all four years of high school curriculum in math or English in just two years! The deadline to apply is May 3, 2017.

Tollgate Farm 4-H Club: We are Starting Livestock Projects!

The 4-H kids are welcoming the arrival of kids and lambs as we look forward to fair projects. We will be working with the animals, learning about the species through hands-on care, showmanship practice, and clinics. This is all made possible through a leasing program, which outlines the responsibilities of working with animals and allows the Tollgate Farm 4-H Club members to take animals to the Oakland County and the Fifth Third Bank Michigan State Fair.

The year is just starting - Come join the fun!

The 4-H Newsletter for March is here!

Oakland County 4-H Connections is a monthly newsletter for 4-H members, families, and the general community with news and information about 4-H Youth Development activities in Oakland County.
