United for Action is the community coalition that worked together to get the North Tahoe ~ Truckee Emergency Warming Center started!

We have a new project, can you help us?

PLEASE SUPPORT UNITED FOR ACTION’S
BACKPACK PROJECT

WHY: The community coalition United for Action is committed to supporting our North Tahoe/Truckee neighbors who need basic daily essentials-especially people who are homeless, victims of domestic violence, or at risk of harm or illness.

WHAT: We’re filling 1,000 backpacks with basic items for the health, hygiene, and comfort of both men and women. By buying in bulk, we save money and meet a real need.

Each lightweight backpack will be fully equipped with an ecofriendly water bottle, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, athletic socks, razor, comb, sewing kit, band aids, and tampons (for women’s packs). Eliminating plastics helps our environment, too.

HOW: They will be given away at no cost through organizations providing direct services: churches, synagogues, and spiritual houses; homeless and food advocates; law enforcement; family resource centers; and nonprofit agencies. This model has been proven successful in Seattle and Los Angeles.

PLEASE HELP: A fully equipped backpack costs only $4.40.

Ways YOU can help get them to our neighbors in need:

  • Give a tax-deductible donation with a check payable to the “Emergency Warming Center” with “Backpack Project” in the Memo Line. Mail to EWC c/o COM, PO Box 1209, Truckee, CA 96160. To donate via credit card, debit card, or PayPal, go to Donate here via PayPal and add a special instruction for the “EWC/UFA Backpack Project."

  • Use your organization’s supply/outreach budget to cover the cost of backpacks you’ll distribute through your network. Contact ufatahoe@gmail.com for details to discuss.

  • Spread the word about this worthy project through your personal and organizational networks.

  • Contact ufatahoe@gmail.com with questions or to volunteer to help assemble and distribute backpacks this spring.

Donations of any size warmly welcomed and appreciated.
Thank you!
