SLS:18 INSPIRE & EQUIP

On Jan. 2, over 75 students gathered and left S
t. Isidore's Catholic Student Center on buses at 2 AM for SLS:18 in Chicago presented by FOCUS.  Ashley Pope, junior, said "the purpose of SLS was to help young people seeking leadership roles
in the Catholic faith learn practical tools to grow deeper in their personal relationships with Jesus, show His love, to bring them in, and develo p fellowship between the others atten ding."  According to Pope and Alex Becker, sophomore, SLS:18 was much more intimate than other conferences they have attended.  Pope c ontinued to share that she "loved that they divided us into small groups of fellow students with whom I could share my experiences, teach what I learned in my training session, and learn from others' sessions."

One moment from the conference that Pope remembers fondly was when "a big group of K-Staters, most I knew before the conference and some I met there, met in one of the empty conference roo ms after the keynote speaker one night to hang out.  We ended up playing a charades-like  game with Catholic references that had everyone dying of laughter.  It was incredible to feel such a sense of belonging.  We were just being goofy and having fun, yet we were able to incorporate our faith into our time together.  That's what fellowship is--a strong friendship rooted in Christ that challenges each other to go deeper."  Because of
Video put together by Jordan Gardenhire, FOCUS Missionary, capturing K-State at SLS
SLS:18, Becker said that he "wants to become more of a leader and be able to l iv my faith out more than I was before the conference."  He also "highly encourages you to go to the next SLS  and that it is a life changing experience that I think everyone should have."

Pathways XXV

The students of St. Isidore's held a second Pathways retreat this past weekend, January 26-28.  Ashley Krier, senior, said 'there was a high demand for people that want to go on this retreat.  We want to make sure everyone that wants to g o, gets  a chance."  Krier
attended one Pathways as a retreatant and has served on two other  retreats.  One of the most surprising things for Krier when she first attended as a retreatant was "during the retreat you cannot have your phones or know what time it is.  This drove me crazy just because I'm such a planner and used to always checking the clock!"   Josh Carlgren, senior, said, "one should consider a Pathways retreat because you are able to see a lot of personal growth from this experience, as well as forming a large community of friends that will be so beneficial throughout the college experience." He continues to say that he is inspired by the Pathways retreat because you see "the change within the retreatants from when they first step off the bus on Friday night to when they're leaving on the bus on Sunday!  It's an amazing experience to get to see exponential growth."

March for Life 2018

On Wednesday, January 17, eight  students from Kansas State University, FOCUS Missionary, Kelly Guilbeau, and St. Isidore's Associate Pastor, Fr. Ryan McCandless, joined the Diocese of Salina for the 48th March for Life. Shannon Keith, junior, attended the March for Life for the first time.  According to Keith, "the March for Life is a gathering for pro-life supporters to give a voice to the unborn and aborted children."

Sarah Bergkamp, sophmore, has been  attending the March for Life since 2012.
This particular March for Life will be
memorable for her because President Trump spoke via live stream to the audience that attended the rally before the March.

Attending the March for  Life for Keith "has changed me to become more observant and more vocal towards the rights of the unborn.  Personally, I find that it was refreshing to be able to use my freedom of speech and feel slightly heard by my government by going to the March.  Things can change when the people put action into their words.  I would like to invite anyone and everyone to attend next years March."  Carson Haupt, freshman, says he left the March for Life inspired by "seeing the enormous amount of people there, and realizing just how young the movement is and its vibrancy."
