Special Message

Welcome to our latest newsletter, the first edition this year. We intend to publish a brief newsletter on a more regular basis to keep you updated on our latest news and upcoming events. We also want to provide you with interesting articles and economic development information. On that note, I want to give a special shout out to our intern, Sage Shavers. She had responsibility for producing this publication! Sage is a recent graduate from Marshall University School of Journalism and she has brought a great deal of new energy and perspective to HADCO. She has been working with us over the summer months and thanks to her help we are improving our community outreach and external communications efforts. Be on the lookout for our new and improved HADCO website. Thanks to Sage we hope to be launching it soon so stay tuned. We hope you’ve been enjoying the summer months this year. Our public schools are getting underway and Marshall University is gearing up again with students returning to Huntington. Our downtown is continuing to revitalize, unemployment is declining and there is more interest on the behalf of potential investors in our area than ever before. Thanks to our partnership with Advantage Valley HADCO is also rearing up to reach out and provide technical assistance to even more existing employers in the region. Here at HADCO, we are looking forward to good things to come and the changing of the season as we work all year long to advance economic development in the Huntington region.

Featured Business

Alcon celebrated their 40th anniversary of the 1977 opening of the Kyle Lane location on August 5, 2017. The North Plant in Green Bottom, W. Va. opened in 2010. Alcon is the anchor tenant at the HADCO Business Park. Alcon came to West Virginia in 1977 when Dr. Jim Cook, a Huntington ophthalmologist, bought a California company known as the California Intraocular Lens Co. (CILCO) and moved it to his hometown. CILCO subsequently went through a period of ownership changes until 1989, when Alcon acquired it. In the years since, the growth of the company in Huntington has been a steady process. Alcon invested $23 million in new equipment for the Huntington plants last year alone. The company has experienced steady growth over the years and they now employ more than 900 workers in Cabell County.
