Check out what's happening at Joshua Creek this month...

Seasons Greetings from Joshua Creek!

2015 has been a year of amazing exhibitions, art classes, workshops, weddings, a children's camp, concerts, yoga, meditation, and drum circles.
The garden outdid itself, especially the roses and the labyrinth with its wildflower meadow, which was trod by many feet. The veggie gardens with their various gardeners produced enormous amounts of produce in spite of the ongoing battle with the most vigorous weeds that ever existed. We feel there will be a great need for allotment gardens in the future and are enlarging the JCHAC Community Garden under the supervision of Jo Maciel, the super gardener.
When we came here 60 years ago, there was an extensive orchard with old-fashioned apples. All that remains is a wild apple tree on the edge of the valley (pictured above). Flocks of birds come to peck at the frozen apples all winter. Seven years ago we planted a new orchard and this year the trees were loaded.
Our most recent blockbusters, the Rampen-Calverley Textiles Collection and Amice Calverley exhibition, have been museum quality and of utmost importance. Next year we have some incredible shows planned, including our annual Art From the Heart, Joshua Creek Studio and Friends of Joshua Creek, and more such as the Octarine Artists, the photography of Dr. Steve Levinson and a returning favourite, the Artists of Halton/Peel juried exhibition. Our website will have all the details as the events draw near.
Many thanks to the wonderful volunteers and visitors who come to share my dream.  Every good wish for your happiness in the coming year.

Sybil's memories: Wintertime Long Ago

When people sing Jingle Bells it makes me think of winters long ago. A time when we trotted off to our one room school house and our horse, Bay, was attached to the cutter. We three children would set off happily with a lap rug covering our knees. I remember and treasure the rhythm of the clop clop of the hooves and lumps of snow flying in the air. Bay would spend the day in  a stable in the nearby farm. If there was a blizzard, he would take other students home to their farms. It was a wonderful experience but I don't remember any bells.
