We're Listening! Administrator

Our administrative team and school board has just finished developing a new set of goals for the coming year.  You can check out a working draft by  clicking here.  All of these strategic initiatives were informed by the data collected from family, staff and student surveys this spring.  We want you to know that your feedback is directly important to the future of our school community.

In my recent family update, I mentioned our initiative to change the start time at the high school next year to align with studies showing that students perform better later in the morning and with more rest.  While many were enthusiastic for the change, we've since had some discussions with many of you who feel this will be detrimental to your family schedule.  We've discussed this as an administrative team, and since the harm to those families appears to outweigh any positive change, we have decided we will maintain the current high school schedule for the coming year.

We love to hear from you about the changes as we continue to grow and improve.  We value your thoughts and are here to serve you!

In His Grace,
Erin Hart

Spring Is In The Air

My hope is that all of the mom's had an amazing Mother's Day this past Sunday. The Mother's Day Celebration here at the school went very well as the families planted flowers, sang songs, enjoyed some treats, and had fellowship with one another. You all work so hard to provide the best lives for your children and you're doing a fantastic job!

Preschool graduation is fast approaching. This is an exciting time for our families as their children are taking the next steps in their lives. I want to thank every family for entrusting their children to us through the school year and choosing our program from among the many other preschools in the area. My hope and prayer is that we have planted the love of Jesus Christ in their hearts and prepared them for kindergarten. This year graduation will be held in the sanctuary at Northlake Church with refreshments to follow.

I am excited to announce that we will be offering a traditional Preschool 3's class this next school year. The class will be offered on Tuesday's and Thursday's from 8:30-11:30. If your child will be 3 years old as of September 1 st , 2017, they will be eligible to attend. Please call the office and set up a tour if you're interested. Space is limited and the class is filling up fast.

Summer program is right around the corner. We kick off the summer on June 19 th . This year our school age kids will get to enjoy some fun and exciting themes including: gardening, cooking, art, science, sports, and much more. We have partnered with Longview First Baptist for the children to attend Vacation Bible School. We are looking forward to our annual swim lessons and other fun and educational field trips. Sun safety is something to consider as summer approaches and children spend more time outside.  We are looking into putting in a covered play space for our toddler playground to provide some much needed shade. However you may want to consider sunscreen or other protective clothing. Our teachers will apply the appropriate sunscreen with your permission.  Thank you so much for the opportunity to serve your family!

What fun!  What entertainment!  If you attended our recent talent show you know we have many talented students.  The creativity, enthusiasm, and pure delight in sharing was so evident, and the evening festivities went by quickly.  Emcee, Christopher Hastings , kept the show going with wit and grace.  "Celebrity judges, Hannah Cathcart, Brady Backstrom and Jim Chenoweth watched with delight.  From a harmonica solo, to a synchronized swimming skit, and all sorts of singing, dancing, jokes and fun, our students' talents were showcased.  Thank you, Mrs. Johnson , for your wonderful idea, scheduling, encouragement, and guidance.  We look forward to next year already!

Parents and board members
- Thank you so much for the colossal spread of delectable delicacies we feasted upon during Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week.  So many of you were involved in setting up, baking, purchasing, and decorating.  Please know, we loved all the goodies and sweet sentiments.  Thank you!  We, at TRCS feel privileged to work here with absolutely wonderful, supportive families.  May God bless you all.

Sixth graders spent four days and three nights at Camp Yamhill Christian Outdoor School the first week in May.  They were blessed with mostly dry weather, which is remarkable this spring. Outdoor School continues to be one of the top memories from students' elementary years. Younger students definitely have something to which they can look forward

We are finished with the standardized testing (TerraNova/In-View), and the tests have been shipped off for scoring.  We hope to have results back before the end of the year so we may share those results with parents.  The TerraNova test takes five half days to administer, allowing us to keep up with learning activities in classrooms.  Why do we give these tests? First of all, we want to be sure our curriculum and our teaching is keeping up and exceeding grade-level expectations.  Our desire at TRCS is to be academically excellent, joyfully Christian, and culturally relevant.

High School Update

As we come down the home stretch of the school year there is so much to be thankful for, and yet so much still to do.  During this past few weeks our students have participated in missions opportunities, finished their Terra Nova testing, attended prom, and have been active participants in advancing the school's Christ-centered culture.

We have the Art show/Open house on May 18th, Jog-a-thon May 19th, and the Sound of Music Production on May 26th and 27th. Soon after that we will be celebrating graduation and completion of another great school year.

Our missions program will begin official signups for 2017-2018 trips in the next couple weeks. Seniors will have a window of time for first opportunity to sign up followed by Juniors and so on down the line. A student will able to reserve a spot on an international trip if they do the following; have enrolled for next year, be in 11th or 12th grade/or have been on a mission trip before with a church or family, and pay the $200 deposit towards the cost of the trip. To go on a domestic trip students must be enrolled for next year, and pay $200 deposit towards the cost of the trip. These deposits are non refundable because they are used to lock in the trip headcount which helps us predict our airfare costs. We will be providing costs estimates so we can get students signed up and allow families a longer period of time to fundraise. These estimates will be more fine tuned during the summer months when we are close enough to the trips to get group travel rates for airfare.

Another program at the school we would really like to see improve is the number of students we bring in for foreign exchange. It is a special experience to bring a student from another country and share a year of their lives. My family has been able to have this experience twice now, and it is wonderful. It is a blessing to the host family, and a blessing for the student who gets to experience life in a Christian home in the United States. They get to learn our culture and share their culture with our students. If you are interested in hosting an exchange student please contact Carol Karns at the high school campus.

God Bless!

Congratulations on another successful tennis season. TRC girls tied for first place in the 1A Trico league. This is a huge accomplishment for a 1B school. The TRC girls played a schedule that faced schools two levels above them. District playoffs will be
this Friday in Vancouver at the Vancouver tennis and racket club. TRC will have at least three qualifiers: Bailee Wallace, Hannah Cathcart and Olivia Cathcart. State will be in Yakima the following week, 5/26-27. If you have the time, come out and  support our girls. All three are very good and I anticipate all three will make it to state. Don't forget to turn in your uniforms this Wednesday 5/17 at 3:30pm after pictures. A big thanks to Coaches Wayne and Pam Hayes for a job well done. GO EAGLES!
