American Academy of Pediatrics Policy Statement on School Nurses
Congratulations to Children's Vision MA member Anne Sheetz, Lead Author of Role of the School Nurse in Providing School Health Services, PEDIATRICS June 2016. The American Academy of Pediatrics released a policy statement calling for the inclusion of at least one full-time registered nurse in every school to help manage school-aged youths' increasingly complex health needs. The AAP also urges increased collaboration between pediatricians and school nurses to improve students' health and safety. School nurses play a major role in supporting improved vision health outcomes for children through vision screening and case management of children referred to comprehensive eye exams.
