Message from our Chairman:

Happy New Year to Keystone Region RROC members and members of surrounding regions.

Entering 2016, our region has a varied list of member events on our roster, and we are seeking member-hosts for several of our marquee events. Hosts are needed for the 2016 Spring Dinner, the Spring Luncheon and Tour, and the Fall Frost Bite Tour.

If you are interested in hosting an event, please contact Thom Weinhardt, Chairman.
If you have never hosted an event before, it is rewarding, fun and not all that difficult. So talk it over with your supervisor and consider giving it a go.

The Keystone Region 2015 Holiday Party

More than 65 Keystone members and guests enjoyed the holiday party spirit at the Kimberton Inn.  Dining on tenderloin, salmon, or duck, with a background music and a spirited comradship, they renewed relationships.

The annual awards ceremony was held.  The Miller Award for attendance with a pre-war car was awarded to Karl Zoller.  The Miller Award for early post-war went to the Wiks of Delaware, and the Cal West Award for late post-war car was Dick Cain.  Ladies Choice winner was Karl Zober.  The Frostbite Award went to Dave and Rose Browne.  The Chairman's Award went to Harry Tucci.

Alice Prizer won the Plaid Award, beating out 3 other colorful entrants.  Lastly, the Flamingos of our ongoing interest were placed in the care of Harry Tucci.  Jack Grocki, our treasurer, anticipates a small financial surplus for 2015.

The Chinese auction was a great success and Carz-n-Toyz, a charity that serves kids in hospitals, will receive $610.

Announcing The RROC Participation at Winterthur
Museum's Point-to-Point on Sunday, May 8, 2016

A mainstay event of the Keystone Region's event calendar.

The Winterthur Point-to-Point is a long-running day-long event of steeplechase racing, parade and display of historic carriages, Black Watch Bagpipers, running of the fox hounds, arts and crafts vendors, stick horse racing and pony rides for the Kids. Also, this it is probably the largest tailgate and picnic event in Delaware.

And, did I mention .... a most outstanding display of Rolls-Royce and Bentley motorcars found anywhere on the East coast.

This is the 12th year that we have been honored to participate in this great event. Once again there will be a fee of $60 per PMC that attends. This is a charity event that assists Winterthur in their community programs and their conservancy efforts.
As in past years, we will be welcomed with coffee, juice and pastries as we gather for registration and pick up our window cards. The $60 fee includes a one year membership to the Winterthur Museum and Country Estate. If you attended last year, your $60 fee will extend your membership another year. If you are an "Active " member of Winterthur and maintain an ongoing membership, your fee is already covered.

Once again, this is a tailgate and picnic event. Bring the best foods and libations you can conjure up. THIS IS A PARTY. The Date Is Sunday May 8, 2016

Yes, it's Mother's Day, so bring the family and treat Mom to a Special Day at ...Winterthur's Point-to-Point.

New Boss in Dash for Simplicity at Bloated Rolls-Royce

FILTON, England (Reuters) - Twelve months and 80 signatures: that is what it recently took Rolls-Royce to approve a small change requested by a supplier, symptomatic of a business that had become as complex as the engines it makes to power the world's biggest jets.

New chief executive Warren East says the number of sign-offs should be closer to 15, and it's an example of the complexity he says has jeopardised the financial health of Britain's engineering flagship, a rival to General Electric in making the engines of the world's largest passenger planes.     CLICK HERE to read more.

                                           Car-Naming Trends

Does your car have a personality? If so, it might just have a name. A 2,500 person survey by AutoNation found many similarities among car names chosen by gender and region, with some surprises.

For top car names overall, people chose car names that begin with "B." Other popular people names are Sally, Lucy, Fred and Stella. Regionally, "B" names rule in the Midwest and West, while names beginning with "S" rule in the Northeast and Southeast.

Here's how the names stacked up in the states with the most cars: California: Betsy, Baby, and Blue. Florida: Baby, Betsy, and Rocky. New York: Betsy, John, Machine, and Baby.
Texas: Red, Joe, Furious, and Baby.

Among both sexes Betsy was the top name choice. However, women overwhelming preferred the "B" names that were among the overall top 10, as well as Herbie, Precious, Sally and Alice. Men liked some top "B" names, as well as Turbo, Buddy, Fiesta, Stella and Steve.

1948 Bentley for Sale

My age no longer lets me enjoy my 1948 Bentley so it is for sale.  It has 64,000 miles and has been well kept, always garaged and up to date maintenance. In December, 2011, I had it evaluated by Dennison-Jayne Motors and their report is available. Their comments in brief say " a very original unrestored example that has been driven regularly without any major restoration work". I have priced it at $17,000-$18,000.   Chris Pedersen, chp11@verizon.net
