Member's experience: Spitalfields, central London swap
"We visited London and swapped homes with Hana's lovely cosy apartment in central London's Spitalfields. The apartment is in a fantastic location, just a couple of minutes walk to London's Liverpool Street station. We really love London and it was great to show it to our toddler who was very happy. It was so nice to feel at home even while abroad.
Hana was very friendly and we exchanged many messages in the build up to our swap. She left our apartment incredibly clean and tidy. Thank you Hana!"- Ilaria

Home swap Q&A: preparing your home for a home swap
Q: I'm very interested in doing a house swap via Guardian Home Exchange. What state does your home need to be in to do this? I know that it needs to be comfortable, liveable and functional (my home is all of these things), furnished (it is that too); however it is also full of my family's personal stuff. To what extent is the property meant to be devoid of this?
A: Although some members offer second or holiday homes, the vast majority list the home that they live in. Guardian
Home Exchange members will expect to be staying in a real home rather than a generic rental or hotel room. Therefore, just make sure that your home is clean and tidy, extra clean bedding and towels are available, your fridge is cleaned (but leave basic foodstuffs like milk, butter, bread). Extra tip: put together a welcome pack for your guests to explain how things work, local attractions, recommended restaurants, transport information and emergency numbers.
