Pastor Brook has been on vacation and now the poor guy (and his wife) are sick (ugh, airplane germs). Let's pray they are both better for Sunday!

While they rest and get better, take this chance to review some of your past favorites.

Try Out a New Phone App With Pastor Brook!

Pastor Brook is trying out a new phone app for churches called “PRAY”!  It is an app that allows individual churches to connect with each other, form small groups, share information, and pray for each other.

If you would like to help Pastor Brook test this out, please text “I’m in” to his cell, (605) 610-7793.  Thanks!

Pastor's Book Study
New Study Begins Tuesday, April 17

Our Tuesday morning study is going off script a bit. We are going to try a writer a little more in the popular mainstream: Kathy Lee Gifford!  Here’s what the bio on her new book says:

As a lifelong student of Scripture, Kathie Lee Gifford has always desired a deeper understanding of God’s Word and a deeper knowledge of God. But it wasn’t until she began studying the biblical texts in their original Hebrew and Greek—along with actually hiking the ancient paths of Israel—that she found the fulfillment of those desires. Now you can walk with Kathie on a journey through the spiritual foundations of her faith:

·          The Rock (Jesus Christ): Hear directly from Kathie about her life-changing and ever-deepening connection with Jesus, the Lover of her soul.

·          The Road (Israel): Explore dozens of ancient landmarks and historical sites from Israel, the promised land of God’s covenant.

·          The Rabbi (God’s Word): Go beyond a “Sunday school” approach to the Bible by digging into the original languages and deeper meanings of the Holy Scriptures.

As you journey through The Rock, The Road, and The Rabbi , you’ll also find additional content from Rabbi Jason Sobel throughout the book. Jason’s insight into the Hebrew language, culture, and heritage will open your eyes to the Bible like never before.

Come! Begin your journey toward a deeper faith through The Rock, the Road, and the Rabbi . We meet on Tuesdays at 9:30! Contact Pastor Brook if you are interested. He usually orders the books in advance.

Bystander Intervention Training
Thursday, April 26, 6:30 PM

Bystander Intervention involves witnessing and peacefully interrupting situations in which there are negative events unfolding for an at-risk person or population. We are hoping to train members of our community and our partner faith communities to learn how to act in situations of Islamophobia, anti-Immigrant actions or hate crimes.

Contact Debby Heimfeld to arrange carpool to this event.
Bear Creek Heads to the City!

Pastor Brook has received some good interest concerning a mission opportunity in the Seattle area this Summer!

The hope is to go down into Seattle (possibly the Tukwila area) and immerse ourselves into several areas of need.

First, would be to expand our relationship with the Syrian and Afghan refugees!

Second, we would like to work with River Park United Methodist Church in Tukwila. This church does some amazing reach out to their neighborhood. Projects might include working with children, painting, home fix up projects, and more.

Third, I hope to connect with some homeless ministries in the Seattle area to see if we could do some work with the homeless.

Much of this is still in the works, but the hope would be that we could stay down in Tukwila, at the church, for the experience. All ages are welcome. We would also invite you to join us for a day or two if you can’t make the whole experience!

If you are interested, please contact Pastor Brook , thanks!

The English Classes for refugee and immigrant women from Afghanistan which began in January continue every Thursday. Jan, Vicki, Beth, Barb, and Debby are truly enjoying the opportunity to teach the women English and also to get to know them personally. The women are warm, genuine, and appreciative, and we come away feeling exhausted but renewed, by giving what we can and getting much in return.

Families from Afghanistan are eligible for Visas to come to the US if they worked on behalf of the US government for at least two years and have evidence of imminent threats due to their work. The review process takes one to three years.

Right now, three of the women in the class are expecting a child, and we often have 7 or 8 toddlers and preschoolers as well. This week, a sister church in Bothell provided volunteers to come help supervise the little ones, so that the Moms could focus.

The women have learned vocabulary and practice speaking and writing on topics such as food and cooking, money and how to shop, clothing and colors, and health and Dr. visits. They share with us some of their culture also, invited us to lunch in their apartment, and showed us how to wear headscarves.

We are still in need of volunteers to come help play with the children during class time.  Contact Debby if you would like to learn more.
