Meeting 10-12-17   Annual Installation Banquet

30 in attendance  - 23  members 7 guests: Mike Foley, Shara Grant, Pam Klaas, Susan and Owen Hornung, Lt. Governor Beth Elaine and husband Mick Sheldrake. We also received a membership application from Susan Horning.

Tonight we welcomed guests, enjoyed food and fellowship together, and celebrated our 2016-17 year in photos and with awards.  2016-17 President Harris Segel called the meeting to order and welcomed guests. In his final remarks as president he said, "our club does great things," it has been an honor to be your president. He then put on is 2016-17 Lt. Governor hat and retired the 2016-17 officers and board of directors. Two leaving the board are Heather Langdale and Ed Ludden, thank you for your service.

2017-18 Lt. Governor Beth Elaine installed new officers and directors for the upcoming year. Cathy Smith and Lindsey Lenhart will join board members: Barbara Hartman, Bill Grant, Ada Trapanese, Todd Adams (Treasurer), Kim Berghs (Secretary), Steve Hess, Rachel Toomey (President-Elect), Harris Segel, and Liz Ross (President). Beth said the word that describes our club is dynamic and the word that describes our service was heartfelt. We know the needs of our community and center many projects around them.

Todd Adams presented Zeller awards to the following members: Bill Grant, Barbara Hartman, Ed Ludden, Ada Trapanese, Giovanni Trapanese. He told the history of Walter Zeller and how the foundation began and the relationship with Project Eliminate. We are a model club and potentially saved the lives of over 690 children with raising funds to eliminate maternal
neonatal tetanus.

We presented Volunteer of the Year to Rachel Toomey and Kiwanian of the Year award to Harris Segel.

Lt. Governor's Harris Segel (Immediate Past) and Beth Elaine (current).

She closed the night by saying how she is looking forward to an exciting year with our club.

  • Luvy Bear: Fashion Show Fundraiser for LuvyBear on Oct 19th at the Bell Tower. See Ian or Nancy for details. 
  • Hope Clubhouse: Annual Mental Health Luncheon is October 30th at BW Palm, 11:00am-1:30pm
  • Trunk or Treat October 31st, at Hunter Park in Pine Manor. 4:30pm-7:00pm. We'll be
    handing out candy, pencils and crayons. See Kim if you want to volunteer.  We are collecting candy for this event so grab a bang next time you are shopping. Bring to banquet or a meeting.
  • First DCM (Division Council Meeting) of the new year is Nov. 1st.. Social time 6:00pm (BYOB), Dinner at 6:30pm, Meeting at 7:15pm. Cost $15, menu to follow. Kiwanis Hall Cape Coral, 360 Santa Barbara Blvd. Speaker will be from Lee County Sheriff Dept. on the Opioid epidemic. Live music! Each club can set up a display of your club's programs, events, etc.
     

Upcoming speaker Cecil Pendergrass, Lee County Board of County Commissioner October 17th.
Cecil proudly devotes his life to public service. He began serving our community in 1984 wen he was sworn in as a City of Fort Myers Law Enforcement Officer.  Following retirement after 25 years he transitioned into the wealth management field. In November 2012 he was elected to the board and unanimously sworn in as chairman of the board. He has been awarded a number of awards and his leadership includes chair and or liaison to a number of councils.
