Dear Village Resident,
The McHenry Country Health Department traps mosquitoes on the Fire District property to monitor for West Nile Virus. A sample from August 21 tested positive for the virus. Illness from West Nile includes fever, headache and body aches. Approximately 80% of people infected will show no symptoms at all but serious illnesses, such as encephalitis, meningitis and even death are possible. The risk remains until the first hard frost so use insect repellent when going outside in the evening. Also, empty standing water from containers around the house and make sure doors and windows have tight-fitting screens. View frequently asked questions here .
