From the Pastor

Greetings all,

I pray all of you had a restful and contemplative holiday weekend.

It's been a busy few weeks here at Northmont. Last week, I traveled with Sarah to Washington, DC for the Festival of Homiletics. Homiletics is simply a fancy term for how we preach.

One of the more powerful preachers at this festival was Rev. Otis Moss III, from Chicago.  One of his more powerful lines in one of his sermons echoes a popular saying in sports. Instead of "leave it all on the field," he encouraged preachers to "leave it all in the pulpit," that when we preach we should do our best to give it all that we have, blood sweat and tears. It was an inspiring week for sure.

Rev. Moss preaches the way Linda Allerton has done her job for nearly 30 years, giving all of herself - mind, body, and soul - to the work of this church. She served not only as an office manager, but as a pastoral presence and listening ear for all who called or darkened her door. Even though we say goodbye to her this week as she retires, her mark on Northmont will be here for years to come. May we follow her example and "leave it all in the pulpit" in our own lives as well.

Please join us in worship on June 10 as we celebrate Linda's career and bid her farewell.

Thanks and peace,

A Note from Stewardship and Finance
by Mark Nootbaar

The Stewardship and Finance Committee keeps you up-to-date on the finances of the church with a quick financial snapshot in each week's bulletin. While helpful at a high level, the snapshot does not reveal the entire picture. Each month, members of the committee review hundreds of numbers, and what we are finding is that "Adult Envelope Offering" is running significantly behind expectations. This is the amount donated by individuals who returned commitment cards detailing their expected 2018 gift.

As of the end of April, pledged giving was roughly $10,000 less than projections. If you have fallen behind in your weekly or monthly offering, please make every effort to "catch up" if at all possible. Your timely gift enables Stewardship and Finance and Session to better budget for activities, maintenance, and staffing.
Do you do extreme sports?
by Steph Martin
Our theme for VBS this year is "Amped" and we need set pieces to decorate the space. If you have a kayak, snowboard, mountain bike, skis, or any other extreme sporting equipment that you would be willing to let us use as decorations please contact Steph. Even safety equipment like life jackets, kneepads, and helmets would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
