Camp Fire Christ Church
A summer favorite returns
Who can resist?
So many wonderful memories are made around campfires. It is a chance to roast marshmallows, sing songs, visit with friends and just relax. Thursday, August 9 at 7:00 p.m. Christ Church will have a campfire in our courtyard. Please bring your camp chair, friends and beverage of choice. Christ Church will provide the fixings for s'mores, the fire and, of course, the fun. Oh, and if you play a guitar or a ukulele, feel free to bring it.

Guatemala Fundraiser
The mission continues....
The Diocesan youth mission trip was in and of itself an amazing experience for all who participated. It revealed the extreme poverty in the village of Ixtacapa and how a little help can result in huge changes, and you can be a part of it! You are invited to join the youth of our diocese for a delicious barbeque dinner and to hear stories of their time in Guatemala. Proceeds from the dinner will fund computers, WiFi and a printer for the tutoring room in the village.  Watch the recap of their wonderful adventure, below.

This year the concert date is August 19 which will feature It's Never 2L8, a lively band that will get you up off your feet, dancing and singing. Their playlist includes mainstream, classic hits ranging from the 60's to present day dance tunes.

Plan to meet in the Orange Avenue and Sixth Street quadrant. Bring your beach chair or blanket, fare to share, your beverage of choice, and look for your Christ Church peeps.

Parish News
Backpack Blessings
Article Subheading
This year's backpack drive was a smashing success.  We purchased 150 elementary and middle school/high school backpacks filled with school supplies and donated the equivalent of 66 filled backpacks to St. Mark's, City Heights for their Back to School Bash event, as well as 33 filled backpacks to St. John's, Fallbrook for their backpack drive. Individual Christ Church parishioners also lovingly purchased and filled backpacks for this effort.

If you'd like to volunteer at St. Mark's Back to School Bash event and help distribute backpacks to over 200 children, please contact Fr. Richard Lee. The Back to School Bash will be held at St Mark's  Saturday, August 25th from 9:00 a.m. am to 1:00 p.m. There will be several shifts of volunteers scheduled, so you don't need to be able to serve the entire time.

It's time to do something good for yourself !
Meet our new yoga instructor
Come and meet our new instructor Rebecca Nagorski. She will bring  new practices and disciplines to our Tuesday evening sessions. Everyone is welcome--newcomers and longtime practitioner.
Classes are at 5:00 p.m. in Hinde Hall and a $5.00 donation is requested.

So get your yoga mat out of the closet, put on some loose comfortable clothes, and take this hour to do something for your personal well-being.

We Believe Church Is Everywhere

Concern for climat e change
Rise for Climate
On Saturday, September 8, San Diegans will have an opportunity to show their concern for climate change with a Prayer and Meditation service and a March downtown.  Both events are planned to coordinate with the Global Climate Action Summit held in San Francisco from September 12-14.   The Prayer and Meditation for the Earth service, Our Common Home, is sponsored by the Interfaith Coalition for Earth Justice and SanDiego350.   The hour-long event begins 8:30 a.m. at Civic Center Plaza.

The Rise for Climate! March begins at 10:00 a.m. also at the Civic Center.   Now is the time for action--the world's weather is not waiting!  For more information contact  Phil Petrie .

St. Mark's Neighborhood Food Pantry
Increased need in summer
Bring pasta & sauce this Sunday
Summer can be especially hard on low-income families whose children are often provided free breakfast and lunch, even after school snacks,  during the school year. The food pantry can provide some help when resources are scarce.

Basic non-perishable items are always needed:  canned vegetables, beans (canned and dried, but not green), canned fruit, canned protein, pasta sauce, canned tomatoes, peanut butter and jelly, cereals, oatmeal, rice, canned soups, pastas, chili, cooking oil, and single-serving items for their homeless guests.

You may bring your donations to church on Sunday or drop them by the parish office during the week.
