Eduardo Zavala

Eduardo's Corner

I have to say, we are so proud of our team and the work that you do. Despite questions about the future of media, local news continues to be important. And you all continue to prove that importance.

Recently:   In June, Orlando was hit with terrible carnage at Pulse nightclub - intensely personal news, since most victims were Hispanic. With the full support of the holaciudad! team, WTMO focused coverage on the story's human aspects: how were the survivors, families, and first responders affected, and where could they find help? WTMO kept information flowing to and about the community. Our hats are off to you and your excellent work.

More excellent work caused great celebration later in June, as WZDC made Washington, DC television history, bringing home NINE Emmy Awards! The area's TV professionals now know that Spanish-language news is on par with English. And our sponsors realize just how wise an investment they've made in supporting us. In May, Nielsen's showed that WZDC was the area's ONLY station with overall audience growth! Congratulations to a truly committed and hard-working team!

Lastly, this is an election year (as if we could forget!). Let's make every vote count in November. Make a commitment to get out and VOTE. Encourage your family and friends. Don't let politicians build a wall between our present and our future, and don't rely on others to speak for you. Let's increase Hispanic representation in the voting booth, to match our share of the population.
Un abrazo.
