January In Review

We had an exciting and fabulous start to 2017,enjoying all of the many wonderful activities and programs offered here at Zack's Place.
We continued with our educational programs including creative writing with Terri Long, Science class with Corinna Dodson, nutrition with Vince Ramirez and story telling with Jools Skeet-Browning.  We also enjoyed reading with our awesome volunteer readers, Diane, Bettyanne, Phil  and Phyllis.
January has also been a VERY active month for us. Beginning with our exciting Ski program at Suicide 6 which takes place every Tuesday.  This is an incredible program that gives every individual a chance to learn how to ski.  We are so thankful to both Suicide 6 and their wonderful staff, and Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports (Tom Alcon) and his amazing volunteers for this incredible opportunity each winter. Along with skiing we have also started our snow shoeing program and practices which take place every Monday afternoon at Vail field. We are working hard preparing ourselves for the Special Olympics, coming up on March 3rd.   This is a wonderful program lead by our Co- coaches, Kitty King and Dail Frates and we are very fortunate to have all of our wonderful high school volunteers who partner up with our participants.  We continue with our weekly Yoga classes, Tuesday afternoons with Tita, Lalita, and Jamie and we also added a new yoga class this month, Svaroopa Yoga, which is right down the street from ZP at Central Street Yoga.  We exercised and worked out each week with Bari, stretching and strengthening our muscles and we boogied down and danced with Jen. We had some great times swimming at the Aquatic center and some very impressive bowling matches at Maple lanes in Claremont. Needless to say we were constantly on the move!
On the creative side of things we have had a very busy month as well, filled with art, music and theater.
We are fortunate here at ZP to have had 3 different art classes this month. Monday afternoons we went to Artistree and made all sorts of wonderful creations out of clay with Fiona.  On Thursdays we had art with Marissa making a variety of masterpieces and we also had art with Lolly and Bonnie where we made magnificent arts and crafts.
On Wednesday afternoons we had singing and music with Kerry. On Fridays we had band and singing with Kathleen and Mark and a great afternoon of drumming with Ted. We enjoyed a performance at LOH, "Moon Mouse" and saw a variety of movies at Billings Farm and Pentangle.
We also celebrated some special birthdays this month, which is always a lot of fun and a big celebration for Fred Beebe who turned 50 this year!
Over all we had a great start to our new year and we our looking forward to the many events, activities and programs in the months ahead.
