Early in 2014 I was invited by Tony Dierckins to write a monthly column on railroading and industrial subjects for his ZenithCity.com website. Thanks to this relationship with Tony, my Twin Ports Time Machine digital image disc idea quickly evolved into a series of stories published on ZCO. This body of work has so far included more than 700 images which compares very favorably with books and printed materials made available from every other historical group during this same time frame, combined; a proud accomplishment for us.

While creating these stories I discovered many more images, maps, and plans than Tony and I could ever hope to publish in our continuing series on ZCO. So we came up with a new plan. In November, and again in December, Tony announced on ZCO that we would be switching gears in order to take better advantage of our collective resources. Since we both have a limited amount of time to do this kind of work it makes sense for us to focus on our key strengths. For me, it's image restoration and building stories around those images to share in a digital format. For Tony, it's publishing traditional books and doing speaking engagements about local history. We'll join forces to team up for some of these Duluth engagements.

Effective January 2016 I will be working to create a new version of my Twin Ports Time Machine digital image discs called Zenith City and Beyond. These products will provide you with access to a collection of images and information not available elsewhere. This convenient and easy to view digital format will be price-point friendly and available exclusively through this newsletter. When I have a topic ready for disc I will make the offer available to you through my newsletter with product manufactured and shipping 30 days later.

But that's not all. Tony and I are collaborating on our first book together, aptly named, Twin Ports Rail History. As I finish chapters for that book Tony will provide select portions of that material to share on ZCO. That means my monthly column will switch to a lower gear to become closer to a quarterly schedule on ZCO. When this first project is completed we will have a finished book that provides a true sense of railroading and its colorful past at the Head of the Lakes area---the Twin Ports of Duluth and Superior. Do you have images to contribute to this project? This would be a great time to drop me a line about what you have available to loan out for scanning. I'm happy to consider any well lit images.

That's the new beginning. The best part is that this promises to be a perfect marriage of new and traditional publishing medias to bring you everything you ever wanted to know about these topics... and hopefully quite a bit more too.
