This first issue of the Zonta International e-Newsletter for the 2014-2016 Biennium focuses on advocacy, one of the three main goals this biennium

International and Local Advocacy

Zonta International has engaged in advocacy at the international level through its international service projects  and its awards programs which promote the status of women.

In addition to supporting international service and award programs, every Zonta district and club around the world implements its own service and advocacy initiatives.  Thus, Zontians enact thousands of local actions that apply global human rights principles and Zonta International's Objects at the local level.

Questions and Answers: Beijing +20

What is Beijing +20 ?
Beijing +20 is a process to assess how far Member States and other stakeholders have come in implementing the commitments made at the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China, in 1995.

189 countries took part in that conference as well as 30,000 activists. By the time the conference closed, the Beijing Platform for Action, BPfA, was a reality. It was the most innovative strategy for the advancement of women's rights that had been put forth until that time.

Get Involved: Join Zonta's Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Girls
Zonta International is pleased to announce the continuation of "Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women", an international campaign to raise awareness of and increase actions to end violence against women and girls around the world.

The campaign officially began with the launch of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence in November 2012. Today the campaign continues to feature the actions of Zonta International's more than 1,200 clubs in 67 countries to prevent and end violence against women and girls in their local communities. It also highlights Zonta International's ongoing efforts through the Zonta International Strategies to End Violence against Women Program and through Zonta's partnerships with the United Nations and its agencies.

How can you and your club participate?
The Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women campaign will take place from 25 November - 10 December 2014 to correspond with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign. During these 16 days, Zontians are encouraged to participate in actions with your Zonta club to show Zonta's collective commitment to ending violence against women and girls.

To learn more about the campaign, how to join and where to submit your story of how you say NO, please visit www.zontasaysno.com.

The 2014 logo has incorporated the action of saying "NO" to violence against women. You can find this updated logo and the original logo, along with other images you can use for your campaign, on the Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women website.
