Running, leading a healthy lifestyle and having a marathon-ruuning-loving wife is what keeps me going. To those of you who know me, you know I am a very lucky guy. There are so few activities for people living with HIV and to a lesser extent cancer. There is no charge for people living with HIV or cancer to participate in this 5K Event. Complete a paper application and indicate you are either HIV+ or a cancer survivor. No need to indicate which and your  health status will not be disclosed.

or as the Abbey Lane Elementary School administration had to say about the toy donations

Young Boy Makes a Big Difference
For the past few years, Matthew, a second grade student at Abbey Lane Elementary School has been making the most of his birthday.  Like most kids his age, he celebrates his big day with a birthday party.  His parties are slightly different because instead of bringing him presents, he asks his friends to consider donating money to a charity of his choosing.  Last year he selected  Sloan Kettering and this year he chose the Richard M. Brodsky Foundation.  Mr. Brodsky's foundation raises money and awareness to find a cure for AIDS, as well as research to benefit those already living with HIV/AIDS, and to support those living with brain cancer.  The foundation also provides food, shelter and shoes for orphans living in Kenya and raises awareness about the 11,400,000 orphans living in sub-Saharan Africa who need vaccinations, clean drinking water, education and clothing.

Matthew learned about the foundation after his mother ran in Brodsky's 5K Run.  In addition, he found out that his pediatrician, Dr. Richard Sartori, works with the Brodsky Foundation by visiting Africa and providing medical care to those who desperately need it.  Mr. Brodsky was so touched by Matthew's generosity, he decided he wanted to do something for him in return.  This year, Mr. Brodsky reached out to Matthew and told him that he would like to donate toys to a place of his choice.  Matthew thought about it and decided he wanted to help those who were less fortunate in his own school community.  On March 12th, Mr. Brodsky appeared at Abbey Lane with his car completely filled with toys.  Boxes upon boxes of toys were unpacked and stored and will be used to make birthdays and holidays a little brighter for children of families in need.

It is truly amazing to see how Matthew's act of generosity and kindness started a chain reaction that helps so many people, both locally and around the world.

Jodi and Richard Brodsky after finishing the 2015 Miami Marathon. My last 3 marathons (age 62) have been my fastest since my terminal brain cancer diagnosis back in 2002. People, even those living with HIV and cancer can reverse their aging process if they have access to doctors and medicine. I promise to continue running my hardest and fastest.

Great Neck North High School and its AIDS Awareness Club  will be sponsoring its 4th annual co-ed faculty basketball. Blood has fallen, tears shed... read more on the FACEBOOK Event page. Kindly invite your friends.
