LIFE Merges with SGP, TLMI Becomes Resource Partner
The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP), the leading non-profit accreditation organization that promotes sustainability in printing practices and manufacturing operations, is supported by numerous major print organizations including Flexographic Technical Association (FTA), Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA), Printing Industries of America (PIA), National Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers (NAPIM) and RadTech.

Over the past several months, TLMI has collaborated with SGP to conduct side-by-side comparisons of the SGP and Label Industry for the Environment (LIFE) programs. It became clear that both organizations have much to gain from each other. As a result of these discussions, SGP is pleased to announce that LIFE certified facilities will be transitioning to SGP.

Sustainability is one of the key pillars of TLMI’s strategic plan and it is committed to providing the most current and beneficial options for its members’ success. SGP welcomes the numerous LIFE certified facilities that will become SGP certified over the course of the upcoming year. A transition program is being developed for LIFE facilities to meet the SGP criteria elements and adopt the SGP program.

In addition, SGP will benefit from TLMI's involvement as its newest  SGP Resource Partner .

CARB investigation leads to nationwide recall of 500,00+ Cummins heavy-duty trucks
Owners of 2010-2015 model-year vehicles must replace faulty emissions components

The California Air Resources Board announced today that 500,000+ heavy-duty trucks manufactured by Cummins Inc. will be recalled due to excess emissions caused by defective catalysts. Cummins worked collaboratively with CARB on the voluntary recall which constitutes the largest such effort for heavy-duty trucks to date.

The excess emissions were discovered after CARB launched its new Heavy Duty In-Use Compliance program in 2016. The Cummins action marks the first major recall resulting from the program, in which subject vehicles are equipped with Portable Emissions Measurement Systems (PEMS) to measure truck emissions while operating on streets and highways under typical operating demands and conditions.

As CARB has done with light-duty vehicles (cars and pickups) for decades, it initiated a program in 2016 to bring private fleet-owned or rental trucks that had been operating for several years for testing. Initial readings of some of the Cummins engines revealed higher than expected emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), a smog-forming pollutant. This led to more comprehensive testing by CARB.
