This Week at St. Michael's
The Church Office will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7 in observance of Labor Day.

The Monday Night Contemplative Prayer Group will not meet on Labor Day September 7th.
Children's Chapel
Children's Chapel, for kids age 3-9, meets during the first 40 minutes of worship service, and includes music, a Bible lesson which follows the weekly readings we use in church, and fun activities or crafts. The kids join their families at the time of the Peace to take communion with the congregation. Chapel during the 9:00 service has resumed after summer break; the kids gather with their chapel leaders in the Children's Chapel room, at the east end of the Preschool wing, beginning at 8:50. The music program will resume with a new music leader on September 13. On the 13th, we will also begin offering Children's chapel during the 11:15 service for the first time. Kids will gather in the chapel room at 11:10.
Godly Play and Youth Classes
Godly Play, for kids age 3 - 9 will start up again for fall on September 13. Godly Play meets during the education hour, beginning at 10:15 in the Godly Play room - across from the preschool classrooms in the east wing of the parish hall. Godly Play is a story-telling style of worship with roots in Montessori.  We explore the mystery of God's presence in our lives, as we believe that all children already know God, but they need gentle instruction on how to grow into that knowledge.  We explore religious language using parables, sacred stories, liturgical action, art, prayer, and silence. We always welcome new children, as each week's lesson stands alone, although the lessons follow the arc of the story of God's people, so coming week to week offers perspective on both Old Testament knowledge (in the fall) and the story of the life of Jesus (after Christmas through spring).
Adult Forums

Save The Date!

Thank You
There are times in our lives when we rely on the love and power of community to see us through times of uncertainty.  This is what I did recently when I asked many of you to attend my band's debut concert at the "Jazz Under the Stars" Summer Series at the Albuquerque Museum amphitheater.  Although the community of St. Michael's has always been a faithful supporter and advocate for Entourage Jazz, there were some in the wider community who doubted the band's ability to captivate such a large audience.  There were also people who questioned my authenticity, as I had recently come out as transgender.  To look out into such a big audience at the museum and see so many from St. Michael's amongst us, I was overwhelmed with joy!  Thank you so very much for your incredible support - I will never forget it.  I am extremely blessed to be a part of our faith community and am grateful for each of you.
Thank you,
Emerson
Casa San Miguel
Thank you, everyone, for sharing our joy in celebrating our 25th anniversary as a ministry at St Michael and All Angels.  We hope you all enjoyed the ice cream and baked goods.  When we put on a celebration like this, we collect funds among the pantry members and none of the contributions we receive from the parish, or anyone else, are ever used.  So far, this year, we have spent over $11,400 on food to distribute on Tuesday mornings.  Most of the money we receive comes from you, the parish.  The volunteers at casa San Miguel may be the muscle that opens the doors and puts the food out, but you are the lifeblood that makes this ministry a reality.  Thank you.
AAEDS Open House
All Angels Episcopal Day School will be holding their annual Open House on Thursday,   August 27th at 6:00 p.m.  This is an opportunity for the parents of the school to meet the teachers, staff, Board
and administration.

Juice it Up!
Come by and visit our newest art space this Sunday.  Steve Shelly has adjusted the lighting for the Galleria, at the west end of the complex, and we plan to use it for informal community art.  Anyone interested in using the Galleria art space should contact Steve Shelly, Sue Ellen Rael, or Grace Collins.   Grace invites you to come by for juice this Sunday, August 30, between 10 and 2.  She has collected some of her favorite paintings from the past 17 years...including a re-imagining of herself at age 5. All proceeds from sales are to go to St. Michael's operating fund.
Jewelry Exchange
Back by popular demand - it is the Jewelry Exchange!  For those of you who don't know how this works, you go through your jewelry and sort out what you don't want anymore.  Bring that to me (Kathryn Ravenwood).  Then come to the Jewelry Exchange on FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 25th, and take any jewelry you like!  There is no charge for any jewlery but we ask for donations to the building fund.  In the past we have raised about $2000!!  And 100% of the money raised does go to the building fund! Refreshments are served and it is a very fun way to visit with friends and pick up gifts.  So save the date and bring me your jewelry!
Caring for Caregivers
Are you being stretched beyond recognition by the demands of caring for a loved one? Caring for Caregivers will meet on Thursday, August 27th at 11:00 am in the Parish office conference room.  The gathering will be facilitated by Kay Veal this month.  Come join our discussion and be blessed in fellowship. If you are interested in participating, please contact Denise Clauss at 697-7294 or Kay Veal at 505-228-7703.
Community Connections
The tallies for our elementary school clothes drive for 2015 are in. Everything from clothing to school supplies (including 10 calculators for the 5th graders) was delivered to La Luz and MacArthur  elementary school staff last week. They were delighted and grateful especially for the 578 items of underwear and socks for both boys and girls. The staff also appreciated the 359 shirts, 74 outer wear garments, and 142 pants. Along with the new clothing, 82 pieces of gently used pants, shirts, outerwear, and light weight jackets were delivered. Kudos St. Michaels. Your generosity is helping to keep our children at La Luz and MacArthur elementary schools warm and dry for the year ahead.
We will be collecting knit and crocheted hats, scarves and gloves the first two Sundays in October. Look for us on the patio between services. For those of you who don ' t knit or crochet, and still want to contribute these items, please do.
Of note, the school staff informed Community Connection ' s volunteers that the books delivered to the school last Spring were a big hit with the kids to take home for the summer, and have asked us to collect another batch of children ' s books for them to give one or two to each child before the school year ends. Keep your eyes open for elementary school age books in both English and Spanish as Community Connections will have a drive in the Spring 2016.
Questions? Please contact Kathy Poorbaugh at 884-3723 or Rhoda Parker at 821-1992.
Book Fair
T he Book Fair is Coming
Date: Sunday, August 23rd - Thursday, August 27th
Where:  All Angels Episcopal Day School Office
To Benefit:  To buy books and seating for the reading areas in the classrooms.
Thanks for your support!!
United Thank Offering
Please continue to drop coins into your United Thank Offering  "little blue box" each day as a token of thanksgiving for your many daily blessings.   During our two 2014 UTO ingatherings the coins contributed by this congregation amounted to just under $3,000 that was forwarded to the national Episcopal Church campaign.  Your contributions during the spring ingathering this year amounted to just under $1500 so we are half way to last year's contribution.  Let's top last year's.  One hundred percent of all funds collected from all Episcopal Churches for United Thank Offering will be combined and distributed as grants to further Christ's mission in the world. "Every day, we have a new beginning; a new blessing; and new hope". "This is God's gift".
