This Week at St. Michael's
Children's Chapel
Children's Chapel, for kids age 3-9, meets during the first 40 minutes of worship service, and includes music, a Bible lesson which follows the weekly readings we use in church, and fun activities or crafts. The kids join their families at the time of the Peace to take communion with the congregation. The kids gather with their chapel leaders in the Children's Chapel room, at the east end of the Preschool wing, beginning at 8:50 for the 9:00 service; for  chapel during the 11:15 service, kids will gather in the chapel room at 11:10.
Godly Play and Youth Classes
Godly Play, for kids age 3 - 9 meets during the education hour, beginning at 10:15 in the Godly Play room - across from the preschool classrooms in the east wing of the parish hall. Godly Play is a story-telling style of worship with roots in Montessori.  We explore the mystery of God's presence in our lives, as we believe that all children already know God, but they need gentle instruction on how to grow into that knowledge.  We explore religious language using parables, sacred stories, liturgical action, art, prayer, and silence. We always welcome new children, as each week's lesson stands alone, although the lessons follow the arc of the story of God's people, so coming week to week offers perspective on both Old Testament knowledge (in the fall) and the story of the life of Jesus (after Christmas through spring).

Michaelmas - Homecoming Sunday

War in Heaven
Next Sunday, for Michaelmas, we will revive an old St Michael's tradition of having the kids act out the "war in heaven" lesson from Revelation during the service. If your kids would like to participate, please arrive by 9:45 - the kids will gather in the courtyard to get costumed and have a quick practice. After the drama, kids can go on to children's chapel until it is time for Eucharist.
Casa San Miguel
A special thank you to Darby Fegan, Kelli Dahlke-Fuentes, Lori Lovato, and Roman Chavez for the very lovely performance this past Saturday evening at St Michael's.  The proceeds from the performance went to support the food pantry, and we are very grateful for this generous gift of time, talent, and treasure.  The pantry exists only through support from the congregation.  Thank you, again.
Jewelry Exchange
Countdown to Jewelry Exchange! The Jewelry Exchange is Friday, Sept. 25th at 6:00 pm in the Pavilion.  There is still time to bring your unwanted jewelry into Kathryn in the office or just bring it with you that night. This is always a very fun event.  Please join us.  Donations to the building fund will be requested to "pay" for the jewelry.  Do your holiday shopping early!
Help Wanted
We are looking for two individuals who love children and can work on Sunday mornings with our young kids.
Nursery Attendant - staffs the nursery to care for infants and toddlers. 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 or 12:20 p.m. every Sunday.
Children's Music leader - teach songs and lead fun singing with kids age 4 - 9 at Children's Chapel, two Sundays a month during the 9:00 and 11:15 services.
Newcomers
Classes will be held every Tuesday evening, beginning September 29 through November 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the Parish Hall. An optional Retreat will be held in January followed by a special Confirmation Service (both dates to be determined).
Everyone at St. Michael's - those new as well as those who have been with us for while  - is invited to attend and use this class to reflect on their spiritual journey and become more familiar with topics such as the Old and New Testaments, The Book of Common Prayer & Episcopal Worship, Sacraments and Sacramental Living, Anglican/Episcopal Church: Past and Present, as well as the Life in Christ, Spiritual Journey, and Life at St. Michael's: Practices of Christian Faith.
This class also serves those interested in adult Baptism and Confirmation, as well as Reception into the Episcopal Church and Reaffirmation of Faith. It is also helpful for anyone who has transferred to our parish and serves as a refresher for those who have not explored these subjects recently. If you have participated in the sessions previously, but missed classes, please feel free to join us on those particular nights. Childcare will be provided for all classes, if needed. If you have any questions, please call or email the church office.

The "Galería", which is at the West end of the hallway by the church offices, is now open for artists who would like to display their work for a 2 month period.  Please contact Steve Shelly at 350-5801 or [email protected] if you are interested.

United Thank Offering
Our Fall United Thank Offering season will end next Sunday, September 27, Michaelmas Sunday.  On that day we ask that you return your little blue box filled with the coins representing your thanks for our many daily blessings.  Large baskets will be available in the Narthex.  Please remember to bring your UTO box or envelop to church and place it into one of the baskets before you enter the Nave.  The baskets will be collected and presented at the altar along with the regular Sunday collection baskets.  Remember, there will be only two morning services that Sunday, 7:30 and 10:00. If you are unable to bring it on Michaelmas Sunday, you may bring it to church the following Sunday or during the week deliver it to the Parish Administrator. We would like to receive all of the UTO contributions before October 1 so we can prepare one check from St Michael and All Angels to deliver at the Diocesan Convention on October 22.   If you would like to have a United Thank Offering box so you can make thankful contributions all year long, they are always available in the card rack at the back of the Narthex.
