Church Cancellation Policy
for Inclement Weather & Emergency Situations
St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church encourages individuals and families to rely on their own best judgment when conditions such as inclement weather, dangerous road conditions, or other emergency situations might put their health and safety at risk by attending church services or church-related events.
Wednesday Evening Activities will be cancelled whenever Charles City Schools are closed or let out early.
Meetings or Other Events, with the exception of Sunday morning education classes and worship services, will be cancelled at the discretion of the leader in charge of the event. The leader, with assistance from the office staff, will notify participants.
Sunday Morning Christian Education Classes and Worship Services will be cancelled at the determination of the pastor in consultation with the council president and in light of local law enforcement advisories. The decision to cancel services is always a difficult one, but your safety is very important to us! The decision will be made by 6:30 a.m. that morning and communicated to the congregation as quickly as possible through a variety of communication channels. If there is no cancellation announcement, services will happen as scheduled.
Please consult any of the following after 7:00 a.m.:
1) The church website,    www.stjohncharlescity.org
2) The church answering system, (641)228-3397
3) Local TV and Radio Stations, KCHA-FM (95.9), KIMT-Channel 3

Records Group Resumes
The records group will continue sorting through the church records on January 10, 2018.  We will meet in the church basement and continue our journey through the boxes of records that have accumulated over the years.  Thank you to all that have helped and I hope to see you on the 10th at 9 a.m.

After School Program
We have 32 kids enrolled in our After-School Program, which is each Wednesday from 3:30-5pm. We have a snack and do a craft project and watch a short video each week. The After School Program could use some donations of Styrofoam bowls for snacks, washable markers, colored pencils and some more snacks. The kids especially like muffins (mixes are fine), crackers, chocolate pudding cups, applesauce cups, and apple juice. Thank you!   Laurie
Valentine Cupcake Event.
February 10 from 9-12 a.m.
Women's Ministry would like to invite women of the congregation and girls/teenagers that are able to handle the decorating with little assistance, to a Valentine cupcake decorating event.
There will be a $5/person fee to cover the cupcakes that you take home.  We are limiting the number attending to 25, so if you are interested please sign up in the church office and make your payment at that time.
This is meant to be a fun event where we try some frosting ideas and use a variety of piping tips to see what we can do.
We will have a final planning meeting on January 18th at 9 a.m.  for anyone willing to help bake cupcakes or help with the event.
