Ladies of St. John...
The church maintains a list of ladies to call to provide salads, cakes & workers for funeral lunches. We assign ladies to each month but we also have an Anytime List. This is a list of people that can be called if needed to provide food/help if necessary. If you would like to be on the Anytime List please call Kathy in the office at 228-3397. Also, if you have dropped your landlines please let Kathy know your updated phone number!
The Council is looking for a few people to volunteer to help go through the numerous records that have been stored around our church.  These records need to be sorted according to Synod Guidelines and discarded if not relevant or beyond the date of necessity.  We will organize those that are required and catalog them so they can be easily accessed in the future.  It is not as daunting as it sounds and could be very interesting and a little bit historical. (We have already discovered some interesting church information such as an early Constitution which we now have in our historical collection.). Janet Petefish and Peg Poppen from the Council are on this committee and we have a few volunteers already.  We can work at it as a long or short term, but consistent commitment as our time is available.
We are meeting already so just show up Wednesday mornings from 9-11 and join us.

Operation Christmas Child

It's Operation Christmas Child gift time!  Please prayerfully consider participating in this ministry benefiting children around the world.  Boxes will be available in the Narthex beginning October 22.  You may designate your box for a girl or boy for one of the following age groups:  2-4 years, 5-10 years, or 10-14 years.  Fill the box with gifts, fun toys, school supplies--a list of gift suggestions is available at:   samaritanspurse.org/occ     A recommended donation of $9 is to be placed in the designated envelope inside the box to cover shipping.
Return to St John by Sunday, Nov 12, as that week our volunteers will be taking the boxes to our regional drop off church in Osage.  New this year are customs regulations prohibiting candy, chocolate, food, or toothpaste.  Other items not allowed are:  liquids, lotions, toy guns, knives, military figures, medications, vitamins, aerosols, glass, or used or damaged items.
"The Greatest Gift" Gospel booklets will be added.  You can be a part of this worldwide effort to grow the Kingdom of God even in places where the Gospel has never been heard.

Start planning your items for the
Silent Auction!
On Reformation Sunday, October 29th, the Stewardship board is planning the Fall Festival. There will be a simple meal, music for entertainment, some activities for the kids and again will be holding a Silent Auction.  They need donated items

from the congregation for the silent auction (NO white elephant please). Items can be handmade or a donation of your time for yard work, computer help, etc. Watch the newsletter & bulletins for more information.
It's time to get those items in or let Kathy Hoeft know that they will be coming so we can get an inventory of items posted.
