Friday Morning Edition
February 10, 2017

This week I did manage to get episode #77 of the podcast published as I interviewed the "Patch King" Nick Wolf.  In a previous email I made a mental slip and referred to him as the "King of Patches" but of course that title has long ago been bestowed on John Bibo.  It looks like there are some royal names available but for some reason nobody wants to be the Duke of Patches or Patch Prince.  Ooops I need to trademark those! :)

In the interview Nick shares the story of developing and manufacturing his patch trading blanket.  It all started at a NOAC when he purchased four really large blankets that another collector had produced locally.  After six months of R&D his own smaller and more affordable blankets rolled out.  Now he has another version out with one more meant for larger items on the way soon.

The best audience for Nick's patch trading blanket is folks headed to this summer's National Jamboree.  Most traders just starting out would probably do well with one of these that can roll up and fit in their day pack.  The blanket holds the patches in securely using a zipper pouch that keeps the patches visible but secure.

In my latest video I take you behind the scenes on a little DIY project that I'm doing in my garage to free up patch space.  After spending a week moving stuff to a storage unit I now have floor space freed up to build custom shelving that will hold as many as 120 27" long patch boxes.  I use the type that Chris Jensen sells to sort and store my patches.  I'll do a follow up in a week to let people see how it turned out.

My faith in eBay was restored last night when I finally got some good bids on 40+ year old neckerchiefs that I've been auctioning on eBay.  Heading into the weekend I still have 276 live auctions running including a lot of New York Order of the Arrow.  With many folks in the northeast snowed in this weekend it might be a good one to play with their patches inside to stay warm and dry.
If I didn't already have enough projects going next week you will see the return of Thread Heads!  This is the talking heads video show that Brad England and I put together that so far has produced 10 episodes.  You can find all the episodes on ScoutPatchCollectors.com.
Have a great weekend,
