April 15th - Emerging Church Sunday
Guest Preacher
Dale has invited a guest preacher to join us this Sunday. She is the Rev. Chris Davies and she is in town from the national UCC office for the 'Church: Alive and Thriving' workshops being held tomorrow and Saturday at Seekonk Congregational and BCCUCC. Chris is a Connecticut native and a Cleveland transplant and a wandering Irish Rover at heart. She loves the church deeply, and is committed to finding ways to continue to bring the gospel into the world. She attended Smith College for her undergrad work and Andover Newton for both a Masters of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry. Chris grew up in the United Church of Christ, and was baptized and ordained within her home congregation in Connecticut. She has served at the local church level at two churches in Connecticut, on the Connecticut Conference Board of Directors (class of 2004), and as a delegate to the United Church of Christ’s General Synod in 2005, 2007, and 2015. She is currently serving on the National Staff of the United Church of Christ as the Program Manager of Congregational Assessment, Support, and Advancement. Chris is a queer femme, a local beer enthusiast, and a creative networker of communities. She is passionate about justice and Jesus, and is the founder and curator of the Queer Clergy Trading Cards, a project bringing visibility to queer clergy, using humor and irreverence to help change the conversation highlighting the common awe (and absurdities) in faith work. Chris lives in Cleveland, OH, where she is still seeking community and continuing to learn in faith and live justly, serving Christ in all things.
We hope you can join us on Sunday to hear this dynamic speaker.
144 Envelopes Fundraiser for the Mission Trip
The “tree of life with leaves for the healing of the nations” is still on display in Fellowship Hall. Each “leaf envelope” has an attached dollar amount. Please take the envelope with the dollar amount on it that appeals to you and return your offering to the church office. Your offerings will help fund our service project/trip to the Navajo Nation where we will be restoring sustainable food systems on the reservation and learning about Navajo culture. If we all contribute what we can to this fundraiser, we will be very close to our goal for this year. Thank you to everyone who has already made a donation.
I saw a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.”  Rev:22:2
Coming soon
JYG and SYG meeting
The youth groups are invited to meet in Room 9 at 9 am on Saturday, April 21st for a light breakfast.  At 9:30 we will help with the annual church clean-up until 11 am. While we help with the clean-up, the youth group will also work on preparing the youth group vegetable garden for planting. Last year the youth planted a thriving vegetable garden that provided Tap-IN with fresh produce on a regular basis. Let’s continue the tradition this year!   Questions? Contact Brendan
Church Clean Up Day
Our annual Church Clean Up Day will be Saturday, April 21st from 9 am – 1 pm. Please plan to come help clean up the church grounds and tackle other projects needing attention. Volunteers of all abilities (skilled & unskilled) and ages are welcome, even if you can only be there for a short time. The Boy Scouts of Troop 6 will also be assisting. Sign up is appreciated - contact Paul Dennis at 245-6296 or wrbtwks@aol.com to volunteer. Please bring work gloves and gardening tools if you have them.
Mission and Justice Speaker Series
On Sunday, April 22nd at 11:30 am in the church library, Rev. Donald Anderson, Executive Minister for the RI State Council of Churches will join us to share the many activities that the Council provides, including advocacy at the State House. The Council just celebrated its 80th year in the fall. To watch a video of that service go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhuMqjQ5q80 . All are welcome.
Loaves and Fishes RI truck run
On Thursday, April 26th volunteers from BCCUCC will be taking the truck to Providence. Volunteers are needed to help prepare food and load the truck (beginning at 4:30 pm in the BCCUCC kitchen), go out on the truck and serve the people, and also donate the various food, clothing and toiletry items needed.   There’s a SignUpGenius with more info and to register for any of these things at www.signupgenius.com - search using the e-mail office@bccucc.org , or go directly to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050a4aacae2aa75-mobile3   Thanks to everyone who has already signed up to help.
If you can't sign up online and want to help, or just have questions, please contact Liz White (401-245-0285 or lizzyw2@aol.com ) or Jay or Phyllis Buckley (401-245-1098 or pbuckley6@cox.net ) .
Belated Earth Day Community Clean Up
Youth from Grades 6-12 are invited to meet in Room 9 on Saturday morning, April 28th . We will leave the church at around 9:15 to go out and clean up our community by picking up trash along the bike path and/or by the river. In the past we have partnered with Save the Bay but we have noticed that there is plenty of garbage to clean up right here in the East Bay! We have developed the annual tradition of having a trash pick-up for Earth Day. We will return to the church by 11:30, wash our hands, and have pizza for lunch. Pick up between 12:00-12:30. Questions? Contact Brendan

Be an active part of our church community
Interested in joining our church? It's not too late!
If you answered 'Yes' but weren't able to make it to 'Conversations about our Church' last Sunday, please contact the Rev. Dale Azevedo a.s.a.p. so that he can arrange a time to meet with you and some of the other people who were also unable to make it.
If you did attend ‘Conversations’ and are planning on officially joining the church, we ask that you please return your completed ‘Family Information Form’ to the church office so that we have the necessary information for our records. Thanks to those who have already done so. We look forward to welcoming a number of new members on New Member Sunday, May 6th.
Volunteers needed to serve on Ministry Teams
The Membership Team is in the process of helping our ministry teams find members for the 2018-19 Church year. Anyone interested in serving – perhaps on a particular team – should speak with Beth Buckley or Joanne Ela at coffee hour, or contact Beth at 247-0324 or elizabethbuckley21@msn.com Please note that you do not have to be a member of the church to serve on many of our ministry teams - although we'd love it if you did chose to join our church (see above).
Church Renewal
We want to hear from you...... about our buildings!
As part of the Capital Improvement Team’s data gathering effort (a Renewal Team component), we’d be interested in hearing your thoughts on building repairs and improvements. Have you noticed something that should be repaired or could really use an upgrade? Or do you have a building improvement idea? Then drop us an email at BCCUCCBG@gmail.com . Like our church, all ideas are welcomed.
Renewal Team Update
The seven strategic teams that were formed are all busy working. The teams are: Congregational Care, Communication, Community Connection, Capital Improvement, Building Usage, Grow Endowment, and Stewardship. There is a shared enthusiasm and excitement among them to keep BCCUCC the great church that we are.
The Renewal Team always welcome input and questions. Feel free to contact any of the team members: Dale Azevedo , Heather Williamson , Helen Schall , Erik Ela , Tom Colby , Larry Ashley or Marion Fodor .
