Community Office Hours
Community Office Hours are held every Thursday afternoon from 3–5 pm at The Coffee Depot , 501 Main Street, Warren. Anyone from the church or community is welcome to stop by and chat with Brendan in this more informal setting. All are welcome.
Tonight's Co-ed Softball game - POSTPONED
The DPW has declared the field unplayable (it's too wet) so tonight's game has been postponed to Monday. See later for details.
Sunday, September 16th
Church School classes begin this Sunday
Church school classes for PreK through Grade 8 begin this Sunday, September 16th. Information about all of the programs we offer for children and youth is contained in the 2018-2019 Guide to Christian Education and Youth Ministry at BCCUCC.
Children are asked to attend the first part of the worship service in the sanctuary with their families. Following the Children's Time in the service, the children and teachers will leave the sanctuary, go downstairs into the vestry, meet up with their teachers, and then come over to the Education Building for their classes. Parents are asked to pick up their child from their church school classroom after worship has ended.
Church School Registration
Registration will take place again after worship this Sunday, September 16th . There will be a table in the foyer of Fellowship Hall where a parent or guardian who registered their child(ren) last year can just update the info and initial the form for this year, and parents/guardians of children new to the program can fill out a registration form. Save time and download a registration form to fill out ahead of time.
Please note that for insurance purposes ALL children and youth from infants through Grade 12 are required to have an up to date registration form each year in order to participate in church programs which includes OWL, Youth Group, Confirmation etc .   Thank you.   
Mandatory Meeting for OWL Parents
Parents of 7th & 8th graders participating in this year’s OWL program are asked to attend a meeting this Sunday, September 16th at 11:15 am in the Library.  
 If you’re new to the church, have a 7th or 8th grader, and would like to learn more about the OWL program (Our Whole Lives – Sexuality & Our Faith), please attend the meeting. More information can also be found on our website at https://www.bccucc.org/education/youth/owl-our-whole-lives/ or speak with our CE Coordinator, Andrea Bullard ( andrea@bccucc.org ) or 246-0111 x107.  
Mandatory Meeting for Volunteers who work with our children & youth
All volunteers who work with our children and youth should plan on attending a Mandatory Volunteer Training this Sunday, September 16th at 11:30 a.m. in Room 6. This will be a brief gathering to review all aspects of our Christian Education programs. For more information please contact our Christian Education Coordinator, Andrea Bullard at (401) 246-0111 ext. 107 or andrea@bccucc.org
Another Opportunity to go Kayaking with Dale!
kayaking on 100 Acre Cove
There is another afternoon of kayaking with Dale on the Barrington River and Hundred Acre Cove for anyone interested this Sunday, September 16th from 2:30 - 4 pm. It's open to all ages and abilities. We will be launching from the boat ramp at Walker Farm where kayaks can be rented. https://www.facebook.com/walkerfarmkayakrentals/
Please sign up by contacting Dale at 246-0111 x 103 or dale@bccucc.org . Let him know if you’re bringing your own kayak OR if you need to rent one. Dale has contacted the kayak rental company and they’ll give us a break on the fees as a group - cost will be $20 for a single and $50 for a double kayak – payable to ‘Walker Farm Kayaks’.

Bereavement Group
The group took a break over the summer and will resume meeting on Monday, September 17th at 11 am in the library. The group is open to anyone who has lost a loved one at any time, and is open to the community. For more info, contact the f acilitator, Betsy Brenner at jsbeeb@aol.com  or 245-8031.  
Co-ed Softball Playoff Game postponed to Monday
BCCUCC won the first of their playoff games (against Temple Habonim), but their second game (against St Luke's) has had to be postponed due to all the rain this week. That game will now take place on Monday, September 17th at 6 pm at Vet's Field (next to the Barrington Y). The last of the playoff games (St James vs Team Unaffiliated) will also be played on Monday after the BCCUCC vs St Luke's game. (There are lights at Vet's Field). The winners of the two Monday games will play in the Final on Tuesday, September 18th, at Vet's Field beginning at 6 pm. Spectators are encouraged to come cheer on our team! 
Mindful Mondays
Mindful Mondays with Brendan are from 7 - 8 pm in the Meditation Room. They are ongoing, except on Mondays when the office is closed. The hour consists of a 20 - 25 minute guided meditation, a contemplative reading or poem, followed by tea and discussion. The sessions are designed to be inclusive for people of all faiths and are open to the public. All are welcome.
Book Group
Next meets at the Coffee Depot, 501 Main Street, Warren, on Tuesday, September 18th at 11:30 am, to discuss The Ninth Hour by Alice McDermott. "A portrait of the Irish-American experience is presented through the story of an Irish immigrant's suicide and how it reverberates through innumerable lives in early twentieth-century Catholic Brooklyn."   For more information about the group contact Helen Schall helenschall@hotmail.com or 245-4724. All are welcome!     What is the Book Group?

Elizabeth and Dale Azevedo will be hosting a dinner for 6 at the parsonage on Tuesday, September 18th from 6 – 8 pm. There’s currently room for 1 more person. Calling all singers!
If you enjoy singing, why not join the church choir - no audition needed! Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 - 9 pm in the Vestry. All voice parts are welcome. 2018-2019 Confirmation Orientation
Youth entering 9th grade are invited to be a part of the 2018-2019 Confirmation Class. There will an Orientation for parents and interested 9th graders on Sunday, September 23rd from 9 – 9:45 am in the library. Brendan will give an overview of the curriculum, answer questions, and provide coffee and donuts - please RSVP to Brendan@bccucc.org to let him know if you will be attending . Deadline for Confirmation sign up is September 30th. 
BCCUCC Cliff Walk and Picnic
Our BCCUCC Youth Group kick-off event this year is for all 6th-12th graders, their families, and any other families who want to join us! We are going to walk the cliff walk together in Newport, RI on Sunday Sept 23rd after church. Please bring a bagged lunch for a picnic. We will leave from the church at 12 pm and return by 4 pm.  Please RSVP to Brendan to let him know if you’ll be coming on the trip by Thursday, September 20th at brendan@bccucc.org or 401-318-2447.

Memory Impairment Support Group to meet elsewhere
Effective immediately, the group will no longer meet at the church but will instead meet at Tockwotton, 500 Waterfront Drive, E. Providence. L ed by Jim McCartney, they will continue to meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month from 1-2:30 pm. The group is open to patients and caregivers and next meets Tuesday, September 25th.  For more info please contact Jim McCartney 529-5259  jrmcc@fullchannel.net  
Service of Welcomes
Sunday, September 30th at 4:30 pm at Edgewood Congregational Church. Come welcome the new Transitional Conference Minister, the Rev. Marilyn B. Kendrix, and let the Conference welcome you to the new Conference offices at the Edgewood Church, 1788 Broad St, Cranston RI 02905. All are invited. Looking ahead to October
Knitting for Others Group
The group took a break over the summer and will resume meeting on Tuesday, October 2nd from 7-9 pm, in the library. The group meets monthly, makes a variety of different items to be given away (prayer shawls, preemie hats, etc), and can provide patterns and help. All knitters/crocheters are welcome, especially new faces! Contact Mary Lou Slicker 245-0085 rislick@fullchannel.net for more information.
Women's Faith Group
The group meets the 1st & 3rd Thursdays from 1:30 – 3 pm in the church library beginning Thursday, October 4th.  The group welcomes women of all ages from BCCUCC as well as from other churches and faith traditions. They will begin reading Parker Palmer’s new book On the Brink of Everything: Grace Gravity and Getting Old. Copies of the book are available for purchase from the church office at the discounted price of $16 each. During the first session, the group will watch a Parker Palmer interview/lecture on YouTube. NAMI RI Family Support Group
NAMI RI ( National Alliance on Mental Illness ) holds a monthly support group at our church for family members of people with mental illness. Open to anyone in the community the next meeting is Thursday, Ocober 4th from 6 – 7:30 pm in Room 6. For more info contact Cindy Elder at 331-3060 or cindy.elder@namirhodeisland.org  
Youth Group meeting
All youth in Grades 6-12 are invited to the first Sunday morning meeting of the Youth Group on Sunday, October 7th from 11:15 am - 1:15 pm in Room 9. Junior and Senior Youth will break into groups at the meeting. Pizza will be provided. For more information, contact Brendan brendan@bccucc.org or 318-2447. 
Barrington Day of Caring - A Community Wide Day of Volunteering
Monday, October 8th (Indigenous People's Day) from Noon – 5 pm. Volunteers will gather at the town hall then leave to go to various sites where they can put their talents to work by improving the lives of their neighbors and the local community. Activities will include home improvement, decluttering, yard work, and cleanup of the beach. All ages and skill levels welcome. Barrington Day of Caring is a new initiative of the Barrington Community Support Coalition (BCSC) that comprises of representatives of houses of worship, volunteer agencies, Barrington Business Association, town and school departments, EMS, Fire and Police. Volunteers can register either online at https://bit.ly/2wCOIrX downloading a form at www.Barrington.ri.gov   or picking up a form at Barrington Town Hall or the Bayside YMCA.

Adult Faith Study with Dale
"The Jesus Diaries: Who Jesus Is to Me"  When is the last time you talked about Jesus and what you really believe about him? Do you even know who Jesus is to you? In this study we will read nine “diaries” from writers of the Stillspeaking Writers Group who will share with us some of the intimacies of their understandings of Jesus in an accessible way. We will discuss these different personal relationships with Jesus and what they may mean to us. We will also spend some time discovering and discussing our own understandings of this man-God. The study meets for four (4) Tuesday evenings from October 16th - November 6th from 7:00-8:15 pm in the BCCUCC Library. Come and join Dale for this interesting discussion.  Register for this class at the church office office@bccucc.org or 246-0111 by Tuesday, October 11th.
East Bay Kids Clothes Swap begins in October!
The East Bay Kids Clothes Swap is a place to trade in clean (non-stained) clothes and shoes, and get clothes the next size up! Ages newborn to 12 years old. Give what you can, take what you need! It’s a great community resource, a place for parents and kids to meet up, and a way to reduce waste. It will be located here in Fellowship Hall of Barrington Congregational Church, UCC and will take place every 3rd Saturday of the month, from 9:30 am-11:30 am starting Saturday, October 20th . $3-$5 donation at the door to cover space rental and expenses, but no one turned away. To find out more information, go to https://www.facebook.com/rikidswap . If you have clothes to contribute, please email rikidswap@gmail.com or call Megan at 401-396-6430.
