Our Lady of Grace Catholic School
eLion's Tales - April 25, 2018
A Message from Mrs. Anderson
Dear Families,

Our Core Value this week is about Unity. It says, “we are active Catholics unified by our desire to be more like Jesus.” Nothing says this better than actions. This coming Thursday Nicholas Hoo will be honored at the Chamber of Commerce Student Citizen of the Year luncheon. Nick epitomizes what it means to be more like Jesus so we are thrilled to have him as our award recipient. Also on Thursday, our entire school student body will run laps for improving their education by having more tech tools available for learning. Funds donated will buy us new Chrome books for the students. John’s gospel, chapter 15, is beautifully written for their it is written - “I am the vine, and my Father is the vine grower….If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you. By this is my Father glorified, that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.” This is a call to all of us.

A Message from Mrs. Anderson

Every other week, Fr. Tom is going to put a little letter in the Lion's Tales to give you insights on how integral a part of the parish our school is. He is such a supporter of Catholic education that it is a pleasure to work under him and have him take so much time to interact with those of us at school. If you see him and have comments about what he says in the Lion's Tales, please share your ideas and thoughts.
Pastor's Letter to Our Families

Having been a graduate of Catholic schools myself, I feel so blessed to be Pastor of Our Lady of Grace School and Parish. It is a community of faith and family, one which forms and nurtures us, both spiritually and intellectually so that we may develop according to God’s call.

A Catholic parish and its school are meant to work hand in hand, each complementing the Christ-centered ministry of the other. Our Lady of Grace Parish built its school in 1955 and opened it in 1956. The faith and charity of the Carmelite sisters brought them to serve among us and for twenty-five years as they educated the families of our parishioners and assisted in building up of this community. After completing the school, construction began on our current Church, which opened in 1957. In 1984, the Stack Center was completed and the multi-purpose hall became available for special events for the School. In 1997 the parish built the Augustine Center, which is now used primarily by the school. Indeed, all the school buildings have been constructed and financed by the parish and are used by the Parish and School, we are one community.

By the grace of God, we have been able to continue the tradition of providing the best facilities that the parish can afford as a sign of our ongoing commitment to Catholic education. Last summer, the parish refurbished the Stack Center and the resurfacing of the parking lot at a cost of over $300,000. This project dedicated space for primary use for our school by setting aside three classrooms for primary use for counseling and small classes in the Stack Center. The Stack Center is used during school hours and after School for Friday assemblies, spelling bees, band, plays, retreats, classes, community meetings, fundraisers, etc. supporting our school community. The parish envisioned both the needs of the school and parish through the construction of the Augustine Center and the refurbishing of Stack Center in order to support our mission of community formation in faith and Catholic education.

Our parish has supported our school for many years through the construction and upkeep of buildings for the use of the school, providing facilities for use in education. This gift by the Community of Our Lady of Grace helps our school to invest in the educational programs and personnel that made possible our recent commendation of excellence in the latest WASC re-accreditation report.

Our community fundraisers are the Auction and Festival. These events help us to nurture this spirit of cooperation and build a community of faith, love, and academic excellence. I ask for your participation and support at our upcoming Cinco de Mayo Dinner, Auction, and Dance.

Peace,
Fr. Tom Czeck OFM Conv.

VBS RETURNS TO OLG THIS SUMMER
July 23-27 ~ 9:00 AM-12 NOON

We are excited to introduce you to Jackie Cruz our new VBS Director!
“Hello, my name is Jackie and I'm a mama to three and my children enjoy participating in VBS. I think kids are attracted to the "learn by doing" approach that VBS embraces.  We learn about Jesus and the impact of his Word by the experiences we share with one another during the week.   I have been volunteering in various leadership roles with Vacation Bible School for the past 6 summers and it is always a highlight of my summer. I invite you to share in the joy that serving in VBS as a leader can bring! It takes many hearts and hands to make VBS in a parish a successful event.”
Registration forms for Campers, and Adult and Teen Volunteers are available on-line and in the Parish office.

Parking Lot, Pick Up, Morning Drop Off and Assembly
Driving through the parking lot at drop off and pick up: Please limit your speed to 5 mph in the parking lot when children are around. This is a very important safety issue. The Somerset and San Miguel gates are entrances for morning drop off. You may exit Somerset and Anita after morning drop off. The San Miguel Gate is NOT an exit ever. The Anita gates are NOT an entrance ever. At pick up the only entrance is through the San Miguel Gate. Somerset and Anita is for exit only for pick up.
At dismissal, if you have a child in grades 4-8, drive in along the parking lot by the church unless they have a sibling in primary grades.     Please do not park in the shady area by the trees as that is the drive through area for cars picking up on the side for the younger children.   Older siblings always are to wait with the younger wear morning line up takes place. All students in grades TK-3 will be escorted to cars by their teacher or aide at dismissal. Wednesday dismissal is always 2:30 as we have faculty meetings that day.
Please be sure your child is on time  at the first bell as at the second bell each student has to be in his/her class line to avoid a Tardy slip.
Parents, please stand at the back of the class lines during morning assembly so the class lines are paying full attention to the Student Council prayer time and pledge. Please do not walk your child to the gate to enter school.
Important Notice from the Office
