Our Lady of Grace Catholic School
eLion's Tales - January 17, 2018
A Message from Mrs. Anderson
Dear Families,

As you know, our teaching staff and office staff attended a Diocesan Elementary Staff Day last Friday. Our new superintendent, Kathleen Radecke, is truly a visionary and is working diligently to help us fulfill the power and promise of Catholic education. One of the key ideas for the day was centered around the word S.E.R.V.E. Here is what those letters stand for:
S = Surprise your customer with excellence.
E = Evaluate the need.
R = Respond with Christ in mind
V = Validate
E = Exceed expectations
This word is in sync with our efforts to instill “gracious space” at our school and the word seemed to be the perfect way to sum up what all of those who work and minister here do every day. I believe that we, the community of Our Lady of Grace, are blessed to be a part of such a caring, dedicated, loving community. Let us remember that the God of Hope fills us with Joy and Peace because we Trust in Him!

WCEA/WASC: We are soon to have our visiting WCEA team arrive, February 13th to be exact. They will tour the school and get a glimpse of what OLG students and teachers and staff do daily. And, what a day to do it---Heritage Food Day! All of the surveys have been completed by staff, students, and you, parents, which has allowed us to take a close look at the many great things we do for our students and what we must continue to do to prepare them for their future in our world. The team will return for the three day visit, March 19-21 and do a full evaluation of what we have written about, where we have been, and where we are going. Please pray for a successful conclusion to the many hours of work put in to make this accreditation successful.

Core Value: Unity: We are active Catholics unified by our desire to be more like Jesus.

Castro Valley Homeless Outreach
A very special thank you to all who supported Homeless Outreach over the last year.
Your kindness and generosity was truly a blessing and was greatly appreciated by
those who received your help. As you can imagine, it is a very hard time of year for the Castro Valley homeless camp community with the cold and wet weather. Having to live under such difficult circumstances causes the morale of the camp to dip. However, the worst thing is not the difficult conditions. To a person, each member of the homeless camp states that the hardest thing about being homeless, even in the winter, is that people ignore them and look at them with distain. Even with your incredible generosity over the last 9 months which has helped their physical comforts significantly, what we have given this community more than anything else is the knowledge that someone loves them and cares about them. They have stated that they feel God’s love through your generosity.

Items needed are:

1.       Batteries (All-AAA/AA)
2.       Small propane (use on lanterns and camp stoves.
3.       Styrofoam to go containers (Melissa distributes the food we provide by cooking it or re-heating it and providing it to each camp resident)
4.      Large trash bags
5.      Gloves
6.      Beanies
7.      Ice chests
8.     Blankets
9.     A frying pan
10.   Tarps
11.   Gas cards
12.   Food (anything that can be cooked or reheated on a camp stove.)
13.   Men’s white athletic socks.

a bag of groceries equaling $35 would give parents a parent hour!

Our next drop off dates are January 20 and February 3.
We will gladly pick up your donation and deliver directly to the people who need it. Alternatively, you may drop your donation at the Parish Office. Your help is truly a blessing. For information, please contact Ken White at [email protected] or
